Life is good

I'm having a bloody fantastic week.

I moved in with my lady at the start of the week. We've moved away from the shitty hovel of a shared student house we were in, into a place of our own. Everything in the house is our own and we don't have to worry about anyone else "borrowing" it.

After 2 months of hard work, the calling card platform that's been my pet project is finally operational and should be live after the easter holidays.

Today Damini took delivery of a second hand, 3 seater sofa for our nice, big lounge for only 20 quid and a new fold out table for only a tenner.

My dad took delivery of my lubberly new 32" widescreen telly which I'll have to go pick up off him tonight after work.

All in all a pretty good week and the bit that makes it even better is that I have a long weekend in which to make full use of all of the above!! WHOOP!!

Yes, life truely is good this week.

Nothing like owning your own home, I got my first property around 12 years ago, I often remember being slobbed out in my own front room and thinking "I could do a shit right in the middle of this carpet and no-one can stop me", don't specifically know why I thought that but it made a point at the time.

Those luvverly furniture bargains, like my set of four folding tables I got for a tenner, the three surviving ones now serving as a workbench in my computer room :)

I've still got some parent hand me downs in the shed, which reminds me to clear out the shed :)
There is a huge sense of freedom when you get your own place, combined with fear of the bills you will now get :)

John (Tremor) and I have been in our house for just over a year now. I love it and the bills were all sorted from the start (I can be a bit of an accounts geek at times) but the worst thing is cleaning. We both were a bit spoiled by our parents, I couldnt use a washing machine, John couldn't (and still cant iron) and neither of us much cared for cleaning at all. We are still crap at the domestic side of it but at least there are no parents moaning about the state of our room or the stiff pants under Tremors side of the bed:p

My day wasn't quite the paradise Kenny's was. I had a project due in at 2, and at 1 my printer blew up. Well, I say blew up, but I mean really it turned into a combine harvester for paper. So, I thought, its ok, I'll save it all onto disk and print it on Kenny's computer. I, being the anal terrified nightmare that had been warned time and time again to ALWAYS MAKE BACK UPS made three back up disks. Then my computer blue screened and I found out all three disks were corrupt and I had not saved it onto the hard drive yet. I ran around, cried, phoned Kenny and told him I hated my computer, then I ate two cadberies cream eggs, and then I calmed down. Then I went to the shops in a fit of guilt to replace the eggs, because I stole them from Kenny's easter egg, but the shops didnt sell them so sorry Kenny.

I made up the end of my essay which had been replaced by those weird gobbledegook boxes and hebrew letters that corruption randomly sows, and hurredly got in my car. These bastard cars wouldn't let me turn right at the main road, so I stubborn cowed it to cut them up and drive right in front of them (I'm in a hurry damn it!!) and then I realise, sat at a 90 degree angle to the kerb, holding up all the traffic, the bizarre royal crests on the cars I'd blocked off, and a dawning realisation struck that I'd just cut in two the royal entourage. Luckily, I didn't get killed by any secret agents, and no, I didn't see the queen. I waved very embarrassedly, and tried to smile in a non terrorist way.

I'm a bit scared of the bills, but I think I have just about conquered domestic appliances. For the whole of my first year at uni my washing machine had been making my clothes smell rank, just dank and musty. then two months before I moved out, I realised I'd been putting the powder in the wrong part for all that time, and just effectively spinning my clothes in water and then drying them again. Mmmm.... musty. I don't do ironning, so that's a null point.

The only thing that's really driving me spare is the fact the same way as cats marks thier territory by rubbing themselves against it, Kenny seems to do the same with socks. Its utterly bizarre. Socks fecking everywhere.

But I'm happy and alot calmer now.

Well, I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear my weekend hasn't been quite the perfectly relaxing time I thought it might be.

Friday morning I got a call telling me our equipment in London had gone wonky.

Now, some of you know that the journey to london takes me around 2.5 hours. And then the same time back again.

So, as you can imagine I was reluctant to actually make the trek to london on my day off. I couldn't reach anyone and so had to make preparations. My boss said that if I went to London, I should drive and take Damini with me and put our costs down to business expenses. So anyway, after frantic calls to our secretary, who lives close to the office, I still couldn't reach her.

All that's required is reseting the switch but I can't find anyone nearby to do this. Well over five hours of my time to just press a green button off then on again!!!

Anyway, We were in the car, ready to leave to London. I was just looking at the map, planning our route when the phone goes. It's the secretary who's finally decided to wake up and turn her phone on. She's able to go to the office and reset our equipment and all is good.
I call my boss to inform him and he says to pull over somewhere and get a meal and put it on expenses. Heh. We'd not set off yet. So anyway, we just drive for a bit and end up in Maidstone and find a posh restaurant to have dinner. I'm even gonna claim the petrol back. :)

Although I was totally knackered from a late night and an unexpectedly early morning we got a free dinner and went shopping into the bargin.

But then today I get another fucking phone call first thing in the morning just after 8. A wrong bloody number from Africa!!!
I couldn't get back to sleep so I've been up since then.

We've got to tidy away the last bit of our packing now cos my parents are coming round today. Tomorrow I won't get a lie in cos Damini's parents are coming round. With a fridge. :) For the last week, we've been living on pasta and sauce and take-aways.

Let's hope I can get SOME relaxation time in front of my hooge new telly soon.

PS, That's my new telleh on the webcam ATM

In the bottom left you can see a Sega Master System II and a VERY old skool telly Pong console. :)

You can also see that I need to do a little tidying. :)

Nice story Damini and I see what you mean about socks via the webcam.

Yes Embattle! Finally some recognition for my suffering! It's just the bizarrest trait of untidyness. Surely people only wear one pair of socks a day, so how on earth Kenny can manage to scatter socks about like stenchey confetti is beyond me. Unless it's like some American Pie use he has for them, and I really don't want to pry. Or touch them.

We met the man upstairs. Very nice alcoholic :) Apparently he's given up driving because he hates it, and not because when we met him his weekly grocery shop consisted of a shopping bag full of White Lightning. But still, he seems to be a quiet drunk, and that rates way above having children living next door.

So this Damini is quite a happy bunny. The milk we bought turned into cheese in the absence of a fridge, and the most exotic and non pasta based food we have in our cupboard is corned beef, but our tv is huge, and being a child of the thatcher years, thats all that is important :)
