Churchill was quite open about his fondness for drink, whereas Kennedy has been lying through his teeth for months, if not years.

Sorry, but was I the only one that noticed he liked a drink way before all this? Was it not obvious?

Hmm.. :)

I feel this is just another step towards drinking becoming outlawed. First no smoking, next no drinking....on licenced sex after?

Churchill wasn't only an ace commander-in-chief but also very amusing:

Conversation between Churchill and Lady Astor:

Lady Astor "If I were married to you, I'd poison your coffee"

WC: "If you were my wife, I would drink it"

Lady Astor " Sir, you're drunk!"

WC: "Yes, madam, I am a drunk. However in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly."

Genius!!

The second quote was so much better than that. He never said the last bit ^_^

It was

Bessie Braddock: Sir, you are drunk.
Churchill: And you, madam, are ugly. But in the morning I shall be sober.

As a member of the Tory party, I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the Lib Dems tearing themselves apart and showing what a ruthless, lying and divided bunch of non-entities they really are. As mentioned by political commentators the Lib Dems try to be all things to all people by deserting their principles for votes. I immediately know when someone has little knowledge of politics when they claim to support Lib Dem. If they had two working braincells they would realise that with a 'first-past-the-post' system it is practically impossible for them to gain power anyway. So a vote for Lib Dem is a waste.

Nothing would please me more than to see the Lib Dems completely self-descruct now Chatshow Charlie has gone and for those piss-yellow parliamentry seats to turn back to blue at the next general election.

You claim to know so much about politics yet say that a vote for libdems is a waste? What about the fact that the more divided the vote, the more other parties may change their policies to try and get those votes back. As far as I know a lot of the time this is why people vote for Lib Dems. They don't expect them to get in, and don't necessarily want them in but the votes that go to them demonstrate that people want stuff moved in a certain direction.

You sir, are a pompous twat.

That really wasn't in the best of tones; whilst I nodded at bits whilst reading it (Zill's post), it could have been in a much less arrogant tone.

Disappointing :(

I'm sorry to have disappointed you Big G but the truth is I am an arrogant, pompous, self-righteous, right-wing, Daily Mail-reading ****. Some people have even told me these are my best qualities including my own dearest Mother. Gawd bless 'er.

I was brought up to be honest. And just because I want boot camps brought back for young offenders and the vote taken away from the poor and working classes doesn't make me bad. I'm very personable and a likeable chap once you get to know me. I'm just a bit old-fashioned that's all.

And so you see with my views I'd never be accepted into the Lib Dems with all their lentil-smelling hippies. That's why I want to see them crushed and wiped off the political map. With any luck their party members will elect old Ming the Merciless as leader as during PMQs today he looked absolutely petrified.

And he is old, grey and balding which has always been a big turn off for voters.

Oh come on Mank.

Boot camps for young offenders, I could buy into that.

Disallowing the vote to the poorer and working classes is probably swinging too far to the right for me, don't agree with that; i'm from a working class background, my dad had a very successful career paying 40% tax for twenty years but was unfortunately made redundant due to the downturn of the electronics sector in this country.

Although not "poor" (poor is relative) he only has his pension for income and I certainly don't agree that he shouldn't be allowed to vote considering his success in early years and the volume of tax he paid to the the government.

Pfft. I don't buy it. Zill's views read like a Labour spin monkey pretending to be a Conservative. Hell, even Mugabe lets the poor vote, even if he does destroy their homes if they vote against him.

What about locking young offenders up?

Are you a "re-integrate them into society" sort of person? ;)

I can't help but think that Zill must be a troll. Plus the fact that you're even giving him the time of day, Big G, makes me lose a lot of respect that I had for you.

It was tongue in cheek when I said I was arrogant, pompous etc. That's just my way of dealing with people who call me names but everything else I said regarding the Lib Dems is from the heart and I stand by every word.

As you're on the subject of trolling nath, let's look at your reply. You called me a pompous twat just because I offered my point of view you disagreed with. But you're not trolling, oh no. You obviously see your reply as an intelligent response, of course.

I certainly don't want poor people's homes destroyed, and I have the greatest of sympathy for Zimbabweans living in sych appalling conditions. I just want to prevent the poor (ok we'll leave out the working class for the moment) having a say in who runs the country because, and they will probably admit this themselves if they were brutally honest, they are not intelligent enough to understand politics. That's why the Sun and Mirror have such a powerful influence on their readers who can't think for themselves. And if you look at the constituency boundaries in England which gave Labour 66 more seats than Conservatives when the Conservatives received more votes than Labour, you might understand my point of view.

Anyway I've got better things to do than be insulted and called a troll just because I offer my opinion. If my views are not welcome here I will not post them.

So much for freedom of speech.

I'm not trying to repress you, nor am I angry, I'm just stating that you sound like someone who actually isn't a Tory, pretending to be one in order to put down the party. It's a common political ploy.

And there it goes "oh no, you can't call me a pompous twat - I was just airing my opinion!". If you read your post again, you'll see that you were calling anyone who voted lib dem stupid. That's an insult, not just an opinion - I replied in kind.

Don't get all high and mighty because I called you on it.

Now you're putting words into my mouth because I never actually used the word 'stupid'. But even I did, two wrongs don't make a right do they? You could have used the situation to get the upper hand and put me in my place by coming across erudite. Instead you took the same approach you're criticising me for and used insults. Oh yes and you went much further by trying to ostracize me by claiming to lose respect in your friend who had the courtesy to reply to me nicely with that "don't feed the troll" paronizing tone.

So what does that make you?

If you want to keep digging this hole for yourself be my guest. You're only making yourself look daft.

Maybe its because my views are seen as outdated, old-fashioned and extreme in this permissive, liberal society, and I come across as caraciture of an upper class twit. I dunno. I've had this problem before and why I don't discuss politics acorss the net as its pointless and futile.

I mean look at manc's response. I haven't even talked about race yet he assumes I hate darkies and calls me a whatever.

I like intelligent discussion with people regardless of their views, even if they are repellent to my own principles. It's just I've got better things to do than have to deal with these kiddies.

We'll leave out the poor because they aren't intelligent enough? That'll guarantee that the Tories get in...oh.

What would happen if you deny the poor the vote, but continue to tax them? I know what I would do if you took my vote away.

You complain about the lack of proportional representation, when earlier you were crowing about how you loved the first past the post system. You can't have it both ways, you know.

That's pretty much guarranteed to evoke an emotive response. PersonallY I think it's a silly viewpoint without knowing what you class as poor? I also think that giving someone a label according to earnings is daft. I know a great many poor people, I happen to have the pleasure of working in an FE college. Just because they don't earn megabucks doesn't mean they're not clever, many of them have not had conventional childhoods (if there is such a thing) and whilst a bad childhood doesn't mean we should pity them it definitely means we shouldn't patronise them or claim to know what they would or would not agree with.

That's why the Sun and Mirror have such a powerful influence on their readers who can't think for themselves. This actually made me chuckle. It amazes me that no conservatives remember who first started changing boundaries to give themselves more seats in parliment. To the point where labour strongholds were removed from predominantly Conservative regions to provide a stronger safer body of votes for the Conservative government.

Anyway I've got better things to do than be insulted and called a troll just because I offer my opinion. If my views are not welcome here I will not post them.

Highly ironic considering it's your wish to take away the freedom of people to choose a government because they don't earn enough to understand politics. Here you've been criticised for your opinion, insulted by a few, yes but nobody has stopped you posting or banned you for it, so you do have freedom of speech.

My final point - this isn't some utopian dream, (unless this is what deebs and ted wanted - wouldn't it be wierd if it was their utopian dream? wierd and scary) it's a forum. You have no rights whatsoever other than those that the mods and the owners wish to give you. There is no god (or any other deity, pancake or fish) given right for you to be able to post here, it is a privilege which can be withdrawn without any reason whatsoever. As a result complaining of a lack of freedom of speech is about as relevent as me mentioning pie. Pie.

Because I find it interesting Nath; just because his opinions differ from yours or mine doesn't mean i'm not going to entertain it. He is entitled to his political and economic opinions, even if they are wildly unrealistic or bordering on fascism.

Actually, it's good to see someone with opinions that really go against the grain of typical FH dwellers, obviously it really stirs emotions in some of us (e.g. you and Mank) and it makes for an interesting read.

I don't understand why you would lose respect for me, i'm just not as quick as others to jump on the "the bloke is a ****" bandwagon that I oh-so-fear will happen.
