Btw. There's another way to interpret your question if your monther tongue doesn't happen to be English, a PAIR of pants is just 1 piece of clothing (=leggings), its the funny way the English say it... They prolly were (not) thinking 'Hey, this thingamajing has 2 of the same pieces, so let's make it plural'

Nerve, a pair of pants in english is exactly as it sounds, a pair of underwear like Y-fronts

However a pair of pants in the USA is leggings/trousers as you say.

We do also have pairs of trousers though. Although thats more in the context of "oo lets try on this pair"
