1.85 - Tradeskills and Class Changes
Players of Dark Age of Camelot expect change. Since launching the game in 2001, the Mythic team has implemented 50 numbered patches to the live game. We’ve come a long way from ‘- Groups no longer disband when entering dungeons or cities and when crossing into other realms. When a single group member moves across regions, you will see him grayed out in your group window.’ One of the recent changes that we introduced was the Mythic respec – a mechanism for us to grant the players a respec without overwriting any respecs that they may have earned. In this patch, we are granting a free Mythic respec to every player, in recognition of the many changes to the game that we have made this year. Of course, we still have many improvements to the game to come.
As we improve the game, we sometimes decide that an idea we have implemented is not the best for the current state of the game. In the last patch (and in the last producer’s letter), we explored the idea of a 3rd Master Level line for all classes, and, after internal testing and feedback, ultimately decided not to implement this feature. I would like to thank everyone who helped us to make this decision.
When we implemented clustered servers, cross-realm spying was a problem we could combat with cross realm restrictions. We restricted players from creating new characters in ‘opposite’ realms and also implemented login timers. Now that the clusters have matured, we feel that the benefits of opening up each cluster for players to create characters are greater than the limited effect on cross-realm spying. Thus, in this patch, we will open each cluster to cross-realm characters. However, our cross-realm customer service policies remain unchanged.
This patch also includes changes to our tradeskill system. We’ve introduced new potion recipes with multiple charges and different strengths. There are also new tincture recipes for reactive, weapon, and charge effects for player crafted items. These tinctures are for spell types not currently seen with dropped gear. And, finally, crafters now have new recipes for specialty equipment - each armor piece has a predefined bonus to extend the utility for crafted armor. And there are significant crafting changes to come.
For class changes and adjustments, we’ve decided not to focus on any one group of classes this patch. We realized we would not be able to make all of the changes necessary for an entire archetype, or even a single class, and still meet various internal goals. Instead, we’ve tried to hammer down some of the longstanding issues with many different classes. We will return to the class adjustment theme patches after Labyrinth.
Speaking of, we’re introducing teasers for our upcoming Labyrinth of the Minotaur expansion. The team can’t wait to unveil all of the hard work that has gone into this expansion, and we’re sure you will enjoy it as much as our beta testers have.
