TBH, I'm can't play guitar (even thought Lou bought me one a few years ago I never learnt to play more than a few chords) but that one just looks uuuuuugly.
Ebuyer have 15w amps with half decent looking guitars (no idea if they actually ARE decent) but have a look...
I took up the guitar about 1 1/2 years ago, teaching myself
I bought an electric guitar first and I personally think it was a mistake. I ended up buying an electro acoustic (Tanglewood deadnought cutaway, approx £400) from which I get much more enjoyment. Its better in that you can play with or without an amp and you can still make it sound a bit like an electric using amp effects. I play it more often. You get better value from an electro-acoustic.
If you do go for an electro-acoustic make sure its adjusted so you can actually do barr chords..mines been done recently and it plays much better now.
I have a Squire Fender Strat (£200) and keeping it tuned is a bitch.
I bought an acoustic last year, managed to teach myself twinkle little star but not much else, it sits in my room looking at me screaming 'PLAY ME!' I suppose I should fork out for at least a beginners lesson or something. The main problem is I bought Guitar Hero 2 at the same time so GH kinda took over.
I've been playing the guitar for about twelve years.
My advice to you is you can't make yourself learn or play it well unless you have a real interest or drive to learn. I never got any guitar lessons, and as such have picked up and created bad habits for myself, but unless you're planning on pursuing it more than just a simple hobby it might not be worth a big outlay.
The best way I got started in playing the guitar, was to buy some chords books (or download them now) for music that I really liked so that I had a good reason to want to learn how to play them and also I knew how the songs went anyway. For me, it was the Definitely Maybe and What's the Story (Morning Glory)? guitar tab books. I started off on the chords and just "learned where to put my fingers". As I played over and over (and lets face it, Oasis is some basic easy shit) I got to know how to play most chords and it just grew from there, but it was all chords I learned before moving into learned some scales and soloing. I moved from Oasis chord books to Led Zepplin books, I taught myself how to play Stairway To Heaven which I thought was impossible at the time but I realise how easy it is now - but baby steps, keep pushing yourself.
4 years later my band were supporting Ocean Colour Scene, The Lightning Seeds and playing T in the Park.
I suggest you maybe try the same approach; what guitar based music do you love? Don't start on hard things, get some chord books, learn some basic easy chords and songs - maybe get lessons then?
Additionally, don't buy an expensive guitar off the bat; however don't buy cheap shit either. Cheap ass guitars go out of tune easily, have bad intonation and can be very hard to play if the strings are miles away from the neck. My gf's little sister has a £20 Argos job and even I struggle to play it.
spend fuck all on the first guitar. if you like it and get good, then you can start worrying about the £950 models. Until you have been doing it for at least a year and have some skills it really doesnt matter what you play.
My older step-son is an electric guitar maniac, he's studying music production in Australia atm, but he always recommends starting off with an acoustic.
We just got one for my other step-son a few weeks back, you can get some decent models for good prices off eBay, don't forget the electronic tuner either, and, if you've never tuned a guitar before; about two dozen E strings.
