LD problem

just started playing daoc again and seem to be having a slight problem, the game lasts no more than 30 minutes without LDing, sometimes it happens as soon as i get logged in... ive tried changing graphics drivers, checked my firewall settings etc. ive tried disabling port scan and dos attack protection, tried disabling "dont respond to pings", turned anti virus off, Zone alarm off, nothing works. ive had pingplotter running while in game, and while i do get the occasional spike of about 300ms, it dones seem to be this causing it as it will often ld while im getting a steady ping of 30ms. im using a netgear dg834 adsl modem/firewall with latest firmware installed and latest detonator drivers for my gf fx5950. nothing had really changed as far as drivers and pc setup goes compared with about 2 months ago when i last played the game and was on 56k modem untill i started updating things in a frantic attempt to stop these LD's. im still using the SI client while my ToA arrives, but i get the feeling the client isnt the problem and im going to be suffereing this is ToA aswell. no other online game is doing anything like this, or even suffering from lag spikes. just this one. the spikes are mainly open transit, but are sometimes closer to home (but like i said, it can LD without them) i think ive mentioned everything.. if anyone has any clues id be very grateful

ps, this is happening on both pry and excal (i read some people had problems with single servers)

ok, i have an update that may help... the problem is not my routing to the servers, and most likely not my internet connection at all. i asked someone on the same isp to use ping plotter and they route through the exact same servers and have not LDed in months. also, when i do get the red squares as a LD, sometimes things i type will go through that i do not see go through, and all my movements do also (jumping around etc), but not commands that are server side, ie going into attack mode, casting a spell etc.

my full spec:

P4 2.8ghz (800mhz fsb) running at 3.06 ghz
1024MB DDR400
P4P800 Asus mobo (using the onboard 3Com gigabit 3c940 network card)
FX5950 Ultra
Netgear DG834 adsl router/firewall

im assuming its gotta be the network card (which i have tested 2 sets of drivers for) just dropping off or something. i will test another if i can pinch one from work for a bit, but if anyone else has any suggestions or now knows what it might be please post it

Hi,

I have the exact same problem with my new computer, and guess what? We both have 3Com Gigabit network cards.

My computer spec:

Motherboard: Abit KV8-MAX3 K8T800 (3Com Gigabit NIC onboard LAN)
CPU: AMD Athlon64 3200+
Graphic: Club 3D Radeon 9800Pro 128Mb DDR
Memory: 2 * Samsung MK8765 512Mb PC3200/DDR400 DDR 184pin 400MHz

If you find any solution please tell, I will do the same. Will try with my old network card later today aswell.

I also have a router, D-link

I've installed my old network card now and deactivated the 3Com Gigabit one. This one (SMC EZ Card 10/100) SHOULD work, played DAoC with it for 2 years.

Will try logging in now, if I don't get any LDs in 60 minutes we have located the problem :)

yeah, i went back to work to grab a card (5 mins away, if that) and its installed. its cured my update problem that i had with the ToA client (which i now cant play because the subs page is down :\) so im suspecting its the gigabit networkcard causing it...

the card is a standard intel pro 10/100

Seems like the LD problem is solved for me. Played for over an hour now without LD :)

So, if someone is getting a new netword card soon, and want to be able to play DAoC; Don't get a 3Com Gigabit one!
