I just upgraded my PC recently and it wasn't that expensive and It works pretty good. specs are:
  • Asus P4T533-C Intel 805E Motherboard
  • Intel P4 3.06 GHz 512K L2, 533MHz bus ( overclocked it too 3.6Ghz and it's still stable as a rock! )
  • 2x 256MB Rambus RDRAM PC1066Mhz, ECC RAM
  • MSI GeForce FX5800 ULTRA-TD, 128MB DDR2, AGP x8 Graphic Card
  • 2x 200 GB, Western Digital, ATA100, 8mb buffer, 7200rpm Hard disks
  • 19" Sony FD Trinitron, 1280x1024@85Hz, 0.24mm, Monitor ( I prefer quality over looks. CRT's have higher refresh rates than LCD's which makes games run smoother )

And that's about it :D

Bought my computer over a year ago, but its still purring like a beast :)

Using a Soya mobo, can't remember/be arsed to check which one but it was one of the best boards out at the time

Amd Athlon XP 1600+

768 DDR

64Mb Ati Radeon 9000 Pro

40Gb 7200RPM HDD

Oh and I've got a big old nasty PHILIPS monitor which i've had for about 2 years, and I got it 2nd hand for about £30 then :p

Been meaning to upgrade it but never seen anything come out that has been worth the money.
