Can anyone advise how I can boost the wireless reception of my Laptop?

It has a built in Intel wireless card, which is generally very good, but at the extremities of the house it can get a bit dodgy.

Do I just need to buy a USB wireless unit and disable the onboard one? Or is there a "trick" I am missing?

Thanks

Ash

This sounds good and you can also buy a box that boosts the range as well.

I'd personally go with the 'box' approach (a repeater), since you have a perfectly good built-in NIC. Something like this - about the same price as a new 'long-range' NIC.

If you want to do it, do it, but not with the Belkin. (Sorry anattic)

They are terrible at range extending. I bought two for the office here at work and ended up having to have two seperate SSIDs as it's nearly impossible to setup one of the to be an extender, despite the "Automatic Config" button on the back.

The Belkin forums contain hundreds of horror stories and the thing's never had a firmware update.

Simply ----- Avoid like the Plauge.
