When I'm just browsing the net my laptop is fine, sits at around 50C. When I play daoc though, after about 30 mins it reaches 80-85C. How can I reduce this? I've never cleaned the fan btw, would I need to? also I've owned it for around 1.5 years.

On speedfan The GPU, Core 0 and Core 1 all reach 80C

thanks

has it always done that or has it just started, at the side of the fan exhaust on the laptop is the air really hot, if it is thne you might want to clean the fan but also stick some heatsink paste on the chip, that helps loads on laptops, the Toshiba's i looked after at o2 did this alot........

I use an active laptop cooler to force air through my laptop's vents.
When I'm playing L4D, the CPU and graphics cards are working flat out. The laptop's own fan kicks in but it isn't really enough. The laptop usually crashes or freezes after 20-30 minutes gameplay without the cooler.

Once I put the laptop on the cooler, one of the fans blows directly into the air intake while the other 2 help cool the underside. The laptop still gets hot, but stays below the temperature where it crashes out.

This is a good example which also looks the part.

Giving it a ruddy good cleanout will certainly help.
Get yourself a can of compressed air, Tesco and Asda now sell these: turn the 'top of, let it cool down for half an hour (as you'll also be drastically cooling it, doing it from hot will kill your laptop) and give it a blow through.

Thanks for the help. I'll get a can of compressed air and clean it. If that doesn't work I'll buy a cooling fan :)
