Easy peasy, it depends entirely on what connections your tv supports and your laptop outputs.

If it is a modern lcd tv and you have a laptop that outputs either hdmi or dvi, then you can connect the TV up as a second monitor via a hdmi cable or dvi -> hdmi cable. The laptop should recognise the TV as a 2nd monitor, and you can set the optimal dispaly settings if it is not already done.

Your TV may have a vga input, on a lot of lcd tv's these tend to have limited resolutions, so it is important to know what it supports. Again windows should detect the connection.

If you do not have a LCD tv, or do not have the inputs above, use good old s-video. Most graphics cards come with an s-video cable in the box so you probably have one already. Connect and the pc should auto detect the display, if not just go to graphics properties and enable it. If you have an lcd tv you may be able to increase the display resolution from 640.

You can choose from software to either extend or mirror the desktop onto the 2nd display.

Also if you have an xbox, it's just a matter of "hook up laptop to box and play".
