Both good laptops but the Toshiba has a far bigger HDD (which makes up for a lot of difference in cost also) and I usually side with Intel kit for Laptops anyway. Also more scope for upgrading. I'd generally go for the Toshiba as the built quality would be better, if it goes wrong in it's manufacturer warranty period they will replace/repair the laptop AND refund your money and best of all, it's not Packard Bell ;)

Ok, but HDD space is never my problem tbh :) But if we only consider the CPU's. Is there a big difference between them?

I often find Toshibas quite big and heavy. Is this still the case?
Never had any experience with PB but it doesnt sound good :)

The Cache looks to be bigger on the Tosh so it means more data can be sent to the processor so it should be faster, if i understand my cache properly.

Another vote for Tosh here on the manufacturer side i would pick almost anything over PB but that's personal experiences.

The new toshiba's appear much lighter than they used to be. Have been using many of the L300 series at work and they're lovely machines for day to day use.

Well, PB had a bad rep in the past, but they're owned by Acer now, I believe, so I'd expect they'll have been given a kick up the rear to improve things. That said though, I'd say the Toshiba is still the better option there. The PB is using an AMD chip that's based on previous generation tech, where the core 2 is a generation ahead. I think intel's cpu throttling for improved battery life works better too, and the core 2 is based on a smaller fabrication if I recall correctly, so that will reduce heat and power draw as well.
