My son and heir has decided that he wants a laptop off Satan Claws this year, after much convincing of mother Trem I have managed to wangle this present for him.

He will be mainly browsing, playing Minecraft and he fancies Football Manager but I just know a little bit further down the line he will want to play some other possibly more graphics intensive games. Now I know £400 isn't going to get us much bang for buck but can any of you give me a hand in finding a decent lappy for the money please, I always end up on Dell's website because I am a fan of their laptops but their £400 offerings don't seem to offer too much.

Any help appreciated and will be rewarded with a signed pube from @TdC

Cheers lads, oh I forgot to say, I won't buy anything off Ebuyer due to them being lying scum. So more ideas needed but with none on the Ebuyer website :D

A word of warning to others as well, if you buy something off Ebuyer and you expect them to honour the *full* 12 months warranty then think again, they will try and worm their way out of it anyway they can. I may do a new thread about it soon.

@Himse I had a SP and none of us in the household got on very well with it mate, ta anyway.

How old is he?

Would it not be wiser to get a desktop, so you can upgrade it over time?

I mean, if he's say, 10, he won't need something portable until his GCSEs at a minimum, so by then, he'll have a good desktop at home, and hopefully daddy has won the lottery so you can buy him a Macbookairthousanddollars.

If not, I'll have a butchers.

He is 10!

We have a desktop that he uses but he wants a bit of privacy because his little sister doesn't let him do what he wants when he's on it (no porn  ) and believe it or not a lot of his homework is online now as well. He also wants to play Minecraft while he sits on his Xbox and talks to his friends on Xbox Live, I know it sounds crazy but that's what he want's to do. He is very grown up for a 10 year old, he isn't as you would imagine I guess.....so fucking hard to type this as I have a puppy German Pointer lying over my arms

Here's the ebuyer rma thing, just in case anyone was wondering quite how scummy they became.

I'd also suggest a desktop because of upgradeability etc.
You can buy something around that price range and then upgrade it with a proper graphics card next birthday/christmas etc, then an ssd, etc etc. Get him onto the master race early :p

If you're really sold on a laptop then Lenovo are pretty good price/performance, but I think you're gonna struggle to find something that plays much beyond minecraft in that price range.

You can find some good 2nd hand stuff on ebay/amazon that'd cost like £200-300 more than that, even a year or two old i5/i7m is gonna blast anything thats available new for that price.

Why have they not made a laptop which is easily upgradable?

Oh yeah.

Money.
