Ok this one is for all the network zealots on FH...

My main computer is connected to the internet via a 16 slot router. Works fine and all. Todday, I started my laptop and plugged it into the router as well. I´ve done that hundrets of times before and it always worked just fine. However, after a couple of minutes of normal online activity, my laptop keeps losing the connection to the internet. The cooresponding LED on the router is constantly green (no flickering as usual). Main PC is constantly online and stable.

I tried:
-reboot laptop
-different network cable
-different slot at the router

Any idea what the problem might be?

Try cutting the wireless connection(if any), they sometimes interfere too.

Also try the cable going to your main compy, if that doesn't work, you know the problem is with the laptop(usual suspect).

I had a virus last week which took away my DNS server. See if you can ping the router by IP. Then do a ipconfig /all make sure your Address and DNS server are correct. In most home networks DNS and Gateway should be the same.

If DNS is missing try setting a static address and use Superantispyware to kill the virus.

If you have a 169.x.x.x address that means you have a DHCP problem on your Router or PC/Server whatever gives DHCP addresses on your network.

I can ping my main computer from my laptop but I timeout when I try to ping my laptop from my main computer. Both computers are on the same gateway and subnet.

Also, I tried the windows connection troubleshooter and it couldn´t find any problemn worth fixing. :)

Weird. I guess I`ll wipe my laptop and do a fresh reinstall. About time anyways.

@Ez: NO! my chars wouldn´t do that to me. They´re all nice chars. Ok, except for the Sorc maybe, who is a little bitchy at times. And the Scout maybe. And don´t get me started about the Paladin! ARGH!
