Yo yo amigos.

As i'm off to uni in a few weeks, i'm in need of a laptop. While my options aren't limited massively in terms of price, it'd be nice to get some feedback/advice from you OT whores!.

I've been pointed in the direction of an Ibm Thinkpad from personal preference from my old man, and given that i have fuck all knowledge of laptops it seems fairly good to me :p

What i'm looking for is something with a lot of HD space (though for music etc an external source could be used), and capable of running games at a decent/high performance level. While i'm not looking to run Oblivion on its highest settings without the slightest glitch ever, it'd be nice to play something that won't need to run in DOS :D

So suggest away meights! :worthy:

Even if the girls keep on saying "the size doesn't matter" to you it surely does matter in this case  12"-17" screen?

Personally I would go for Asus

<1500€ in UK iirc and there might be newer model out.

Currently I have Fujitsu-Siemens 3438g (data sheet pdf for specs) wich is a bit too large (17" and 4kg) :p

Avoid Asus like the plauge, they just don't have the support network in place if you have problems with the laptop. Stick to the big 4, least that way you know you warranrty is safe and you can actually get the laptop repaired under it with the minimum of fuss, unlike Asus.

recently bought a toshiba satellite pro..
nice laptop..havent really tested it yet tbh, sits on my desk as a BB machine, can run all day with no problems..only run it in TOA version of game atm, not cata but it can handle TOA np, and fine for running round in PVE also. i chose it cause it was one of a few with an ok grfx card (for a laptop) cost me like £450 off net....but only has 40gb HD.
if i had a bigger budget i would go for alienware, or maybe the dell gaming laptops (cant remember name)..but as laptop didnt cost me a penny, i cant b to fussy ;)

They have a tiny support staff in the UK and no third party dealerships doing repairs. I have spent 90% of my adult life in this buisness and if you want decent warranty support backed up by a dealership and repair network then you need to be looking at IBM/HP/DELL/Toshiba. Perhaps Sony as well although I have heard you have to really push Sony to get a warranty repair on anything expensive.

Ironforge lags any machine to be honest but even my 2 year old PC can run the outdoor areas with no lag so I would imagine you can get £1000 laptop that will deliver better perfmance than my old rig.

Personally, I've had good experiences with Toshiba and Dell, and found IBM's really, really slow for their spec (not too bad if you reinstall and strip out the IBM extras.

Its just outside of Rayleigh, they are on each other's borders. Its a small area with no real building that you would recognise it by.

And just 10 minutes away from where i used to live/my parents currently live(less if im driving :p) which is Eastwood :D

God i cant be arsed to go back there this weekend but family wedding up in Romford. Gonna be fun fun fun!
