Just idle speculation I suspect, but I just bought some ram for my laptop, a Toshiba L40, and was wondering what else you could do to it. A proper video card of some sort would be great, then I could play games on it properly.

Mind I recall how bad it was taking the last one apart, so maybe its a no no anyway, or a new motherboard perhaps.

Any thought chaps?

I haven't taken a laptop apart for a few years, but I daresay things haven't changed much. Upgrading anything in a laptop apart from more ram and a similar, slightly faster processor has always been annoying to do and not particularly cost effective.

Budget gaming laptops are a reasonable price now, so it is much less hassle to simply buy a new one.

How to upgrade a laptop in 2 easy steps
(1) Flog your old one on E-Bay
(2) buy yourself a new one with the proceeds of the sale.

The only "user replaceable" parts on a laptop are the memory and the hard disk.

Some laptops do come with "replaceable" graphics cards, but they are quite bespoke pieces of kit and impossible to acquire once the manufacturer has done a product refresh, they are also normally "specialist laptops" or a specific brand. (i.e. some Dell XPS had a graphics board replacement available for a period of time)
