Well I guess it falls under false advertising, seeing as he has zero actual real proof that what he says is true.

As for the story, its from the Guardian, not exactly known for looking at both sides are they?

Well first of all. Everyone knows its true. Second of all, you dont need proof to say something like that on tv. Just ask all those people who keep telling that Obama is a muslim. No one is stopping them. :p

Most people don't know that it is true, they are told that it is true. Very few people do know. I do know that scaremongering increases scientific grants and keeps scientists in easy money for a few years by doing "research"

Both sides have a lot to gain so cannot be neutral.

No you dont.

People make the wierdest claims on TV/advertisements without having any proof at all.

(Only this one is true)

If they do they get fined and the adverts pulled, which generally stops companies making stupid claims.

There are strict laws against false advertising to protect the consumer.

it depends, is the advert trying to sell a product?
if so, there is about a dozen pieces of legislation related to the advert depending on exactly what it is.

i couldnt say "my new formula cures cancer". since it is against the law to claim something cures cancer, dating back to some legislation in the 1930s.

have a look at
consumer credit act
consumer protection from unfair trading regulations
trade descriptions act

to get a basic look at it.

You're talking about products. This is a political add.

So the fact it costs alot of money to do research means that all research is invaidated due to conflict of interest doesn't strike you as odd for other fields of research?
What about the conflict of interest from OPEC countries who rather enjoy being the energy pimp daddy...
