Lair etiquette

Just a few questions really.

Spent my first session in the lair today which wasn't too good.
Spoke to listholder and got put on (told him level to check) and waited 6ish hours. Eventually made the group. 30 minutes later group dissolved as people left and a handful of us were left and no one seemed too keen on getting it going again. So I logged for dinner. Came back on and there were a few people on the hill waiting (some on the list for the dissolved group who weren't too happy for not being informed it hadn't existed for 2 hours...)
Anyway there was a new list holder so I spoke to him and gave my rank and LvL (thane 42) and was immediately told noone of lvl 42 was allowed in lair groups.

Now what I want to know is this. Was I being BS'd or was he serious. I know plenty of lvl 40-42 people who have been in lair groups, in fact I was reccomended to come by a couple of them. At lvl 42 I hit hard enough to take aggro from a lvl 48 zerk.
I was reasonably close to just calling it a day with Daoc because of today. I spent nearly 8 hours of game time with my character logged on the hill for half a pip of experience and 4ish gold only to be told I might as well suicide as I wasn't supposed to be there.
In the end I lost money and had little over 1/4 of a pip gained for 8ish hours ingame which is my official slow record.

What was I doing wrong, why did one person invite me and another tell me to forget it. Do I need friends in high places to get in a group pre lvl 43 or what?
The most annoying thing was just before I suicided out there were apparantly 12 people on list discussing forming a new group and they all just ignored me. Which was nice.
Suffice to say I have been in a pissed off mood all day and doubt I will be going back to malmo as although the xp was quick when it lasted the general attitude sucked and it was a waste of time all told. Unless I bring my own groups there to xp.

As far as I was concerned a lvl 42 Tank could quite easily slot into the backup/leach group at Lair. Most players will allow this to occur but unfortunatly there will always be minority that set a lvl 43 requirement for the group.

I hope next time you will have better luck, it shouldn't be as bad as what I had to endure being the most unwanted class to group with there.

The whole time i leveled at the lair it was 43+ for tanks.

Exceptions were sometimes made but on the whole if you weren't 43 (or higher) you were denied a place.

Obviously thought it depends on who's organising the groups:/

At lvl 42 I hit hard enough to take aggro from a lvl 48 zerk.

Lol, maybe if the zerk was ooe and you were styling. Either that or you were taunting. Or both.

It's the inconsistancy that annoyed me, being told by one it was ok then being left high and dry even though they needed people to make up numbers.

I am happy that there are rules, but incosistancy is a problem.
Certain individuals being allowed because of who they know and others not is just not on.

I'm not asking to be powerleveled, far from it, I really hate people who powerlevel friends and/or use buffbots (although from my experiences of buffbot central in the crab room in spindel I can pull and kill just as fast as them...) What we need is consistancy.

>Lol, maybe if the zerk was ooe and you were styling. Either that >or you were taunting. Or both.

Naah it's probably the spells mainly ;-) And the nice +st items

Another thing I did notice when there was the attitudes of people there. I'm not a big fan of the list system, but it's a way around a problem that exists. However I was disgusted at some peoples attitudes. If you run a list run it fairly. We were pulling and killing consistantly well but during my 45 minutes at least one character was allowed to jump right into the top of the queue, and what's worse was that he was lvl 50 and only after cash/items (and then left because it wasn't productive enough). Bearing in mind I had been patiently waiting 6 hours to get on and others never even made it this does indeed suck.

Are you all daft

Sitting about for hours on end, sounds like fun, shame there is not a forge at the lair.

Is Malhomous that so much better for xp and drops than Raumarik that people are willing to waste so much time waiting on lists?

As for the equiette of the lists, here's a thought why not organise your group(s) away from the hill and then just walk in, yes people will bitch and moan and the adds might get a bit much but so what, politeness and the ability to play well with others is not really something that happens that much in Daoc, if they couldn't think of anything better to do with their high level time such as get our relics back then maybe they need their outlook shook up a bit.

Let the 'I'm higher level than you so I know best' wining commence!

Yes the Lair brings out the worst in ppl. Wating in line. Whoring drops whine when the xp sucks (because no campbonus/low dmg output) it wont make you feel better Yaruar.. but it was your first wait for a nigh nonexistant grp, hate to say it, but there will be more times like that :(. I have also done the 10h trek on the hill for 30 min grp action, luckily i have alts :).

TRhe xp is the same as in Raumarik, but everyone is so Drop minded. Tho theres some sweet drops in Raumarik too. But Rauma isnt called Epic zone, so its less über in some ppls mind. Best of all... theres no DT in rauma = more kills = more xp :)

And about the minimal lvl.. i just hate that. But there is an alternative way to pull at the lair, that lets 40-50 ppl pull simultaneously. But thats a different story. :)

Well, reading through all this has just put the icing on the cake for me as far as ever going near Malmo...... As someone with a wife/family I havent got time to waste sat around waiting to be told I can xp somewhere. I've tried H and all the primadonna ( xp's crap, cany believe you let me die, i want that drop, let my mate into the group or we all leave etc.....) ppl I came across there seriously disgusted me.

Raumarik Guild Hunts here I come..........

I would recommend to everyone in their 40s in Midgard to never go the lair again until we get 1.49. DF will be here soon, then Malmo will be empty. The drops are probably better in DF, the exp sure is, its more fun and there no freaking lists.

1.49 is imminent, why go through pain misery and having to deal with grief at the lair when you can just concentrate on an alt and ding to 50 with your main when 1.49 arrives. Surely getting to 50 as quickly as possible isn't that important ?

All I can say is that the 'mood' at lair has become worse just over the past weeks. Only time it was different was when we got two groups together after the last dragonraid and went for a bit of fun. No bitching about loot and no list. It was only for a few hours tho, but it was nice =)

And really, if you don't have an alt and spend the time sitting at lair waiting. GO CREATE AN ALT ! ;) Nothing is worth sitting at lair waiting for hours upon hours.

is it really so hard to have 3 grps exping together at lair or H ?

when u have the 2 main grps, let everyone else form a 3rd grp, and just exp on, sure they haveto make sure they can handle it, cause the healers will have to look out for thir own grps..

"lower exp whine whine" well neither lair or H gets out-of-mobs so practically the exp will be ~same. but no, the "help-ppl-exp" term is unknown in daoc.

As far as I have seen, the H have been uncamped for days, might be a good idea to go there soon.
And for me xp and loot is second in this game, of course i like items and xp, but i play for fun and someone trying to get all drops and whining about xp is slow kindda gets to me. I would rather be in a group that has some funny grp talk with lower xp, than a grp so fixated on drops/xp that the only thing that passes in the grp chat is "mine mine, i want that drop, xp sucks now, lets find something bigger to kill".
Also alot of people have got some xp calculations wrong IMO, fast easy smaller xp, is better than high risky and slow xp.
Just my 2 cents

Yay Alius, welcome to the ranks of those who understands the game.. im 100% with you :)

Why cant some ppl have a little fun while they play... like i swing a slow hammer.. plenty of time to chitchat between blows.. but once in a while i got someone in the grp saying "ChitChat@DT plz!!" .. how fun is that :/.

In my opinion the lair gets out the worst in some ppl..... unfortunately.

Yeah went to Raum shortly after the whole experience with a few guys just to have some fun. We weren't a dedicated xp group as we ranged from 37 to 50 and went for balanced teams. But dammitt we had fun and the craic was good. It's the reason I didn't delete my character.

We chainpulled cute horsies for an hour and generally had a laugh.

My one experience with H wasn't too bad, but that's because we made our own groups and went in, but I still remember the first time something dropped.. sunndenly the killing stopped and the whining started.

Raumarik appears to have been designed by someone with 'roleplaying' in mind. i.e. It is atmospheric, scary and good fun. Malmohus, on the other hand, was obviously designed by a powergamer, it is annoying, stupidly difficult and boring. Go figure.

All those peeps waiting for hours on the hill should up sticks and get to Raumarik. If you get enough you can kill revenants and WoW, both drop really nice stuff.

When I was lvling in lair it was 43+ for fighters and 42+ for healers. Unless there weren`t any on the list etc etc.

What i suggest is get a decent exp group and go to raumarik - it is alot better than malmohus. At first i hated raumarik and prefered malmohus for the first few days but then the list hit me. I love raumarik than malmohus now even if the exp is slower at least its exp other than sitting on a hill for 6 hours, which i had to wait when i was a lvl 49.5 healer.

OR.. do it US style ;)

OR.. play an alt til DF comes, then there will be ppl needed in Malmohus, because it will be empty then ;).

Darkness Falls

Sadly I think DF is going to cause more bad feeling than ever, as I understand it the DF entrance will only open in the realm holding the most keeps, although people already in will not be removed from DF, my negative prediction is as follow

A guild or one of the alliances will come up with a plan of attack to take a fort or three, then the 'chosen' will get to use the entrance get in and nab xp and treasure whilst everyone else decreed not high enough lvl or whatever will have to lemon about in the enemy realms, or run back to defend our keeps as the other realms will come be also basically doing the above.

This might be half cut Friday night logic but from what I have seen is more than likely to happen in some form or other.

Hmm... might be off a bit, but isn't DF sort of lvl 14-50 ?

G

Yep DF is supposed to have a wide level range, but as it will contain other realm players I get the impression you will get horridly and repeatedly killed by 40 somethings camping the lower level areas between major hunts which I assume for the harder bits will be partys 2 or 3 groups of level 45+ players

Might be wrong about that too have to wait and see I suppose

if you want to know if you got access to DF a simple /realm should do it (or so im said), and DF is apparently very awkward compared to "normal" rvr.

AE spelss are a nono because of the high amount of mobs, and camping the lowlvl areas? remeber to get to any of the other areas everyone (from the same realm) must go through the same areas, take a look and i must say that the "lowlvl" wont see as much rvr, as the "highlvl".

Aha I see

My apologies I didn't know each realm had a different entrance, might not be so bad then, and am I right in thinking the mobs drop a different kind of money rather than just item drops and this money can be spent at the DF merchants for nice magic items this may cut down on the drop whining as long as the money is divided equally

Of course I could mostly find all this stuff out for myself but as I'm very lazy I'll just ask people that do know.

Mobs drop seals (in various forms) which can be used to purchase items from the merchants by the entrance. These range from fairly low level stuff to endgame items.

The best items, naturally, are those dropped by the DF Epic mobs, but for regular non-raiding it's the seal items you'll concern yourself with.

Well Yar, with attitudes like those you encountered you can see one of the reasons I quit.

Although as Krusha has said, I think I will probably make a reappearance once DF arrives. Although by that time everyone will have levelled WAY past me. ;)
