pubs are wank as nath said

get an evening, get 3 or 7 mates, and go play for an hour or 3, its so much more fun

also - viz hunter - the further u jump dictates damage on impact, helps a lot ;)

Yup, I agree. I don't tend to play pubs unless I totally have to.

I usually get a series of mates together, and as Nath said, even having one mate on your team makes a huge difference. The special infected aren't very effective on their own (unless you have a shockingly bad human team that leave ppl on their own) and if your playing against a cohesive human team you really have to be pulling off 3/4 hits at the same time e.g. boomer at least 3-4, hunter/smoker those not boomer biled first etc.

In L4D2 there's also a realism mode. Here's walkthrough vid of it.

Also the demo got unlocked late last night/this morning. There's some good in-depth comments here.

Always thought the game was pretty balanced and alot of fun with mates, hardly ever play it with the public unless we need a gap filled in our games or I am playing a map my mates don't have.

Good to see the Demo up and the problems I was having with Steam last night I gave up and watched TV.

I play publics and with mates. Unfortunately with mates we generally rampage the other side and they all fuck off :(

Aye, know what you mean. It's often hard not to find a opposing pub team that won't ragequit.

Played the demo aaaaaaand......

....it's a bit wank tbfh. :(

Too consoley. Just feels like it was made for the Xbox first and PC second.

Graphically it's better, but a lot cleaner (could be because it's set in the day). The shotgun doesn't feel half as satisfying (could just be a sound effect thang) and it's too fucking easy.

I just creamed through it on my first go, single player (with the shit bots), expert. Hardly got touched. It's as if the wanky console owners with their shitty controls were first in Valves mind so even on the hardest level it's not much of a challenge.

Melee weapons made me smile at first use but then bored me. I wasn't particularly threatened by the two different specials I encountered.

Had a go online and, like people say, it's just not great without mates. I'm hoping they change a few things before release or I may just end up playing the first one much more.

L4D seems, well, a lot crisper. But I'll see if I change my mind after the game proper comes out :)

well tbh its left 4 dead 2 its more of the same but with added goodies,

single player expert????? all i can say is it must have been dumbed down to hell for the AI. ive just tried on expert with 3 other m8s, and we all played l4d to death, and can do expert on that with our eyes closed. 3-4 specials comin at you with a horde? we got trounced. the sheer number comin at you once you trigger the perimeter alarm is insane.

the melee weapons are a great touch, and with them been mostly 1 shot kill can come in handy in non horde moments. the machete has quickly earned a place as my choice of melee in the demo.

the new specials are a great addition and add a whole new dimension to the game, the spitter appears almost every time your on low health and incaps you into a pool of its acidic spit!

the charger is just nasty.

jockey seems a bit pointless its easily killed and does sod all dmg.

that said there are bugs and pathing issues which im sure will get resolved before release it doesnt feel polished i cant put my finger on why not but it doesnt feel as good as L4D i think its probably because of the day time setting doesnt feel atmospheric enough.

i am really looking forward to the game be alot of fun with friends which is all i ever played the original with. plus chainsaw + zombies how could anyone turn that down!

jockey drives you tho
in Vs, you can ride someone off a roof, down a hole, etc, and kill them

also "realistic" mode is meant to be harder for "normal" modes isnt it ?

Played a bit of the demo last night, liked it but without mates it was a pain getting a decent game. Guna give SP a try later. With the day setting I am wondering if vs may be a bit unbalanced as usually you can use the darkness to your advantage.

Did it with a mate and 2 bots and a couple of mates from work on expert last night. Pissed it. Seems a lot easier than L4D tbfh - and both my mates said the same thing, independently of me....

Charger is an excellent addition, as is the fact that Director seems to horde you every time one of you goes down - for added nasty.

Weird thing with the boomers tho - 2 of us got puked on last night so I stood a little behind my m8, away from the direction that the horde was coming from. They all went for him. Maybe it's a change on valves part to help make one of the players hit the deck?

Just thought I'd say, still playing the demo. Still enjoying it. Still farrrr to easy.

There's just no point in playing on anything other than expert. Fucking console users

In my opinion the only thing that gives this game any longevity is VS so difficulty will be entirely down to the other players.

Bumbpy;

Bought it today because people here said it's worth it.

Well..

It is :D

I'm in the middle of the first soloplayer campaign and it's by far the best zombie game i've played, dead rising 2 might win, but it's going to be a hard contest. This game might go on my top 3 shooters of all time too.

If the solo player is anything to go by, multiplayer should give me all the zombie fun i need, not to mention i'm still not even close to being done with the solo action.

I do tend to die a bit, but it's all part of the learning fun.

Thank fuck! The real game has a "realism" mode. A match of that on Expert is great fun :D

Someone please answer this;

Why the f...no...why the motherf*cking f*ck do people join an online campaign and then put a vote to switch the campaign because of a clusterf*ck?

Ok i get it, it's annoying to die due to this or that, but if you want to switch a campaign, just go find another game.

I wanted to do my first playthrough(story and all that) with humans, 'cause it's more fun, but half way through the swamp campaign people(2 people as there was 1 npc) just decided to throw a vote to switch to the rain campaign.

Annoying as f*ck as they just joined in and i was playing that campaign since shot one.

Should be a "creator" choice to switch campaigns.

/rant over

Still love the game and have had several floor rolling moments, one being a hunter being shot in mid flight and landing on a chair in the motel yard, someone promptly saying "Guess hunting season is over." on the voice com. Same guy also ran around with a can of gas shouting "I've got a jar of petrol" while being chased by baddies.

So like with every game online; good/fun team = fun galore. Bad apples = need for a break.

Much much much better. There is a survival mode which I guess is the closest to the WaW version but instead of 20 or so zombies attacking you in your camping place, there are hundreds, with the specials. :) The current modes (I may forget some) are campaign mode, versus, realism versus, survival, mutations (change every week), scavenge... think that's about it. 6, soon to be 8 campaigns though with the sacrfice and no mercy joining. :D

I can't stand this game on the Xbox. But then I can't stand any shooter without the freedom that comes from using a keyboard and mouse :)

Hate to sound like a PC fanbois but why would you get a Valve game for a console, all the content is free on the PC and the experience is a lot better.

Well if you're xbox exclusive, it's kind of the only choice as your PC(if any) will most likely run like a 17% low fat gouda.

To put it another way; it's like buying GTA for the PC, it's not as good as, but only option if you don't have a box to ruin it with..err...i mean buy it for.

Some games transfer very well to ze box. Though ofcourse best option is to have both :p

Fair enough toht, though Valve do *very* well at making their games run decently on old hardware, Source scales down well.

Still, if you don't have a 3d accelerator at all then you're obviously stuffed. I had to inform a client of mine that COD 5 probably wouldn't run so well on their Dell P4 with an Intel GMA graphics adapter :/.

I hope you charged him the cost of a new graphics card for that advice on the basis that clearly he's stupid.

L4D2 is actually one of the better PC -> XBOX translations imho, mostly because you can button mash with the meele weapons.

Given my line of work I'm used to people who know little to nothing about puters, but I was genuinely surprised that someone thought they'd be able to buy a very recent game and play it on a 5 year old PC.

My experience is unfortunately that people seem to equate PC's as being like their telly. Buy it and it should just "show ya what ya want on the screen". Most seem not to understand the concept that the PC needs to generate that shit whereas a TV is effectively a dumb client.
