I really liked the look of this squad based RPG, paid up on steam and will give it a go. Perma death for squad members and the customisation available looks very extensive.
Will give it a good play through tonight. Just did the starting village and only played 10 mins so far. Could not get to the online game only offline right now. Basically you control a tank, healer and crowd contol bots. Each has two abilities on a 6 button bar. Graphically very nice. Will let you know more after tonight.
So played a couple of hours. Enjoyed the game, quite quirky story set in a punked post apocalyptic Sweden. Typical cut scene town scape:
Design is very nice but movement, point and right click, is very controlled much like MS Dungeon Siege. With the actual game play akin to Xcom is real time mode but with free movement. There is a main story quest but also loads of side quests and bounty rewards.
You have 3 characters to quest and clear dungeons with, my current set up is a tank, healer/ranged and ranged/crowd control. I also have access to a DW dmg dealer but not tried him yet. Each character has two main abilities and 1 other that is a slot in from drops or npc purchase. These are layed out on slots and accessed as key 1-9. Hud is layed out as follows:
General game play view below:
As you level you also open slots for bonuses called boosters and implants. Implants will increase general stats as +5 str or +5 defence etc. Whilst boosters customize your abilities, see screens below.
Almost anything in the game can be crafted from dropped items and foraging. Recipes can also be looted or purchased from NPC’s.
The encounters were very easy to begin with but ramp up quite quickly. Heals and ranged attacks draw aggro from tank so you can’t just send in tank with occasional heals. Some encounters with multiple attackers takes some kiting and using abilities at the right time to survive. Can get very tricky with some mobs and have had to run away a few times.
If a team member is taken down in normal mode gameply they can be revived. Each time a team member is revived a littled yellow glass container on the left of the char overview fills up. It fills after 3 revives and they then need urgent medical care in one of the towns, 300 Kr and your guy is good again.
Couple of bugs which need some work still, like going down multiple levels into a cave system then coming back up to a cleared level and the “fog of war” is back in place. Overall though, a nice little game for $15, I hope the designers keep working on it and adding content as promised.
