It was okay for a disaster movie, nothing great, but worth watching.

I've not seen many movies with Nick Cage in em, but i'd say this is one of the better ones that I've seen. As for disaster movies, get used to em, this is going to be a least the beginning of another decade of em with GW etc.

I liked this movie apart from
the psuedo-religious cop out ending.

In fact, its one of the few movies I've been genuinely scared at - the plane crash scene.

Nooooooooooo!

Cage has made some great films, but non recently, he has gone for easy, big budget films that make no use of his talent.

Check him out in something like Bringing out the Dead, or if you want action, Con Air or Face Off.

The Weather Man; Gone in 60 Seconds (Eleanor was hot); 8mm (grim but still great); Leaving Las Vegas; Wild at Heart (though that's cause it's a Lynch film).

He's done some really dire stuff recently but he used to be a god amongst actors.

... Wild at heart (i think thats the english title)

It is - iirc the US title was 'David Lynch's Wild at Heart'.

TBH Face Off & Con Air he wasn't great in but did what the films needed (Face Off being a John Woo spectacular) but he's been a damn fine actor in quite a lot a films prior to the recent crop. He was even quite good in Honeymoon in Las Vegas.

Agreed. I can't believe his wonderfully sacrosanct rule of not doing sequels to films. I really respected that.

The he ended it when he did National Treasure 2. Seriously, a Disney film he decided to break it on??? Oh dear. :puke:

Cage is a fucking awful actor, but there are a few exceptions. Leaving Las Vegas is pretty harrowing, but his best movie evar™ is Raising Arizona.

Well I was trying not to list his entire film history before around 2005 when he got shit.

(edit! Lord of War was post 3005 and very good though)

Can't blame Cage for the recent movies, still a good actor. He went for the money and the money is in big action flicks.

Raizing Arizona and Leaving Las Vegas were both excellent. 8mm and Windtalkers were also good, as was the The Rock for it's genre.

Yeah he's made a few turkeys like the truely awful remake of the classic Hammer film, The Wicker Man. Still think he's good though.

Every great actor should be allowed a few bad pictures. Just look at Christopher Walken's film list. Classics like The Deer Hunter, King of New York and Things to do in Denver.... then you come across the worst James Bond Film ever made. Even the comedy Casino Royal was better!

Good grief, it's distressing to see one someone as seemingly intelligent as you so misguided :\.

Your answer is there :p

I like method actors, and he has been one of the best for many a year. Do you honestly not like him in his earlier films? Is it just him that annoys you, or the movies themselves?

Like I said, Raising Arizona was fantastic and Leaving Las Vegas was decent too. Other than that, most of the stuff he's been in he's ranged from competent to shite.

I wasn't going for his entire film history (I'd have failed if I did) - just some of the better stuff he's done in a range of different styles. Otherwise I'd have listed Snake Eyes & the like.....

Never seen Lord of War, might be worth a punt if it's a return to form. God knows what happened to him - maybe just took any & all roles as he's getting on & wants to pad the retirement account.

ah got a bit confused. Not seen this one yet. I thought it was the one he did where he can see 7 seconds into the future all the time, that was quite good as well, apart from the end. Cant remember what that was called now.

I dont know about Mr Cage, theres just something about him that puts me off him in films.

Raven, find a film called 'Lone Star' then you'll see you've found the worse film of all time. One of the few films I couldn't give anymore than 45 minutes to before I had to turn it off and use the DVD as a coaster (and it wasn't even my DVD).
