BBC NEWS | Magazine | When does kinky porn become illegal?

I totally dis-agree because all the research says that there is no link between watching violence and being violent - her daughters killer was psychotic regardless of him accessing porn yet the governments going to legislate to ban it as though the link were proven.

If they applied this to video games it would be a disaster - hell ban the news because theres violent images on it sometimes!

It seems a bit ridiculous that some sexual activities which are completely legal to perform are illegal to film - this is poor lawmaking and could have many unlooked for consequences...

Another notch up and until there's a civil revolt due to everyones rights being taken away.

Is the government aware that they're eventually going to receive a push back?

When it happens, it's going to be ugly.

But we are good citizens, consuming and paying our taxes just like uncle Gordon orders.

I'm pretty strongly against censorship for the most part, but I actually believe that some porn should be banned. I have no issue with BDSM, doesn't morally outrage me, doesn't get me typing letters in caps lock, but the extreme edges of it, things like faked snuff, faked rape, fake necrophilia, are incredibly disturbing, and having them readily accessible at the click of a mouse rationalises and normalises what is completely abnormal behaviour, and fuel fantasies that cannot be replicated - suspension of disbelief may work well over the screen, but not so much in reality.

Anyway, that's my take on it. Maybe because I have ovaries, I have a gut response to women being fake strangled, or reduced to a make believe corpse, just so someone can get his jollies.

I have similar feelings towards this type of porn actually, but this news concerns me. It's all about precedence, as rynnor said - outlawing pictures/films of something that's legal to actually *do* seems iffy. There is something disturbing about people getting off on seeing women abused (even if it is fake) but then again I'm really looking forward to getting GTA4 and going on a city wide rampage. Couldn't the two be compared and then used as an excuse to ban violent games?

I have not problem with banning some of this stuff, but it has to be illegal at the point of production rather than the point of consumption; with this law you can be criminalised because of the contents of your cache; technically if someone starts spamming you with dodgy pr0n, YOU are committing the offence. Also, how many people have inadvertantly clicked on a dodgy link? I know I have, and that's now a criminal act.

I know because of the cross-border nature of things, the government would find it difficult ban dodgy stuff coming from, say Russia (not without going down the Great Firewall of China route), but just because something is difficult doesn't mean you don't try; the US and Russia host most of the dodgy porn in the world and political pressure should be brought to bear if government feels strong enough, rather than simply criminalising vast swathes of their own citizens.

Sex is an urge that every normally functioning person has. Violence is an expression of an emotional situation, or a means to an end. If peoples sex drives get caught up with exceptionally deviant and abusive stimulus then that is a completely different issue to the one of game violence.

But then with this government, they never did let the truth get in the way of a new tax or law.

Hmm.

Have to do a research on how much kinky porn and violence in games actually REDUCE sex crimes and violence.

It would seem logical, that if you can virtually spank your monkey to a fake snuf film, you don't have to go out and do it.

Or if you can go online and bash kiddies with baseball bats, you feel less the urge to kick that neighbors juvenile delinquent off a bridge.
