Hello all, I have a button on my keyboard that's supposed to shut down my computer, no matter what I'm doing, and it used to work perfectly. But now, when I press it, I go to the windows screen saying "It is now safe to turn off your computer" and I have to manually turn it off. Does anyone know how to fix it? Reps to those that help me solve this! :)

There might be some software for your keyboard that you need to install.

prolly means the computer doesnt know that the computer can be turned off via software (atx+acpi)

update your chipset drivers (via, intel, whatever) and hope for the best

when you shutdown via start menu -> turn off computer, does it do the same thing, or shut down and turn off properly?

The thing is, I never had to before. Last time I installed Windows 2000 it worked perfectly.

It does the same thing, it sticks to the "now safe to turn off" screen.

I had the same problem some time ago.

Reinstalling bloody windows was the only thing that helped for me... didn't try too many other things though :(

does your PC turn off when you press the power button on the PC? If not then you need to check your bios settings for ACPI and make sure it's enabled, check your motherboard drivers are up to date also.

Possible solution:

What on earth are a on/off button doing on a keyb?
I just got a new keyb myself, 10s later it was 3 keys fewer. 2 x Win & 1 for some menu I think. Those keys has nothing to do on a keyb imho. :)
