I have a semi decent machine:

P4 2.8
2GB RAM
9800 Pro (I know pos)
SATA etc

My problem is when i look at a level 10 keep i freeze until i look away. if its level 1 then it seems to be ok although there is a definate decrease in FPS.

I run in max resolution as well.

Am i just hoping too much from my old 9800 pro or is there something i can tweak ?

Have you tried a defrag, scandisk and a full file check in Camelot ?

If there is a dodgy file associated with a particular keep piece you might get that problem.

I am sorry, but that GFX card is way to old.

Let me put it in context, you are 3 generations behind current cards.

1. Nvidia 7900gtx/7800 ATI x1850 ( 1 - 2 years old) (PCIe)

2. Nvidia 6800gtx ATI x1600 (I think) (2 - 3 years old) (APG/PCIe)

3. Radeon Pro 9800/9700 (4+ years old) (AGP)

I may well missed a generation.

This is merely the example of where the card stands in ght GFX timeline.

Real world example ... Porsche Carrera running on Citreon 2CV Tyres, loads of power and no real contact with the outside world.

I don't know a lot of people who play in the max resolution tbh. What resolution is that?

How are your graphic settings? You playing with full details and shadows etc?

Nothing wrong with a 9800 pro, guessing its down to settings etc

try lowering them, or running an older client.

Yes SkarIronfist the 9800 is an older card, but its capable of running the game smoothly

From your brief specs, I suspect your video card drivers are out of date, that would explain the slowdown.

Your oppinion of what gfx card you need for daoc is a little out of perspective. 9800 should be no problem, DAOC doesnt require a porsche carrera to run, a fiat punto would do if it works ok and you dont want 50 realtime shadows and full draw distance. The engine itself is as old as that card, theres no need for massive fill rate or pixel shaders, they wont get used.

To give you an example, I used to run on a GF4Ti, with everything at max with fps from 30-60, I upgraded it a few months ago cause I do play other games that do require a more modern card, but its made no change to DAOC :)

I've got it, and it suits me just fine. Can run Battlefield 2 on 1024 with all settings up high no problem at all.

Is your motherboard AGP or PCI?

It could be your daoc installation aswell that have some bug in a file that make u lag when viewing it.

I have an even worse PC and I don't lag when looking at keeps ...

2.6 ghz
1 gig pc 2700 ram
radeon 9600

so maybe u should try to make a new installation and try if it's the same problem still :)

And whilst hopefully it isn't the case, there's always the chance of hardware issues.

My graphics card works perfectly except for one thing, I don't see the colours on 'blob' type monsters (well, most colours, I can see one of the colours that Gremoan shifts to). I've reinstalled everything, and tried many different graphics drivers, but no change. I just see a vague ghostly shape, that's very easy to miss.
