Kazaa - Come back with my files!

Having used Kazaa for a while now I thought I really ought to start sharing some stuff. I carefully configured which folders I wanted shared and made sure that others containing personal stuff were not shared.

In my uploaded list I noticed several files which people had taken which were not in the specified shared folders. They were pictures of my last play. I double-checked everything and made sure that there weren't copies of these files in a specified shared folder (does that make sense) but no. These files came from folders which I had expressly asked Kazaa not to share.

I've filled in a bug report on the Kazaa webbeh but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this? Needless to say my file sharing days are over.

I don't think there's a log. I just looked at the list of uploaded files in the lower pane of the traffic screen.

I'm glad you've heard of this as well, Emb. Maybe they'll fix it.

Hmmmm - perhaps it's time to kill the app. I do reckon it's dodgy as hell - but I never reckoned that dodgy.

/me sets firewall to tell Kazaa to "fuck" and "off" :)

Looked on some webbehs about this and checked the 'My Kazaa' page. Every single file on my hard drive has been marked as shared. Every one. They all have the little 'shared' icon and they all allow me to change their properties to 'not shared'.

It could be that Kazaa marks them all as shared by default but only allows users to upload from the folders you specify. If that's the case then it clearly doesn't work.

One way around it is to tell Kazaa not to share any of your files. That's what I do, cos I don't entirely trust Kazaa.

Doesn't that kinda defeat the object of a program such as Kazaa?

You can limit the amount of uploads from your computer, plus the amount of bandwidth allocated to Kazaa.

Tools -> Options -> Advanced (For Bandwidth Allocation)

i also dont share any Files on Filesharing like Kazaa, i dont trust it enough, ive heard of these "holes" where people can view the entire contents of your hard Drive (Like Summo), so i stick to downloading, not uploading

A while ago I was curious to see how many people just share everything. I did a search for documents called 'budget'. A fair few hits. :/

Walk away from Kazaa, walk towards Direct Connect++, it takes some figuring out but when you get used to it DC++ is fantastic.

!!!READ AND UNDERSTAND THE RULES!!!
Private message from Hub-Security: <Hub-Security> You have DC++ and are now banned from this hub. Install neo-modus DC and you are welcome back

nice.

Something a little better

I used to use directconnect when I first got cable last year, and it was never really impressive. Poor UI, and a lack of content even with 30gb ish shared.

I use WinMX for getting old/rare/good mp3s. If you use a decent server list you can connect to something like 1.2tb and above in minutes. :)
