No it doesn't but implied doesn't mean certainty either, so maybe you should wait before shooting off down this avenue of discussion or at least admit at the moment this is all speculation.Originally posted by Arcl1ght
Impending does NOT mean immediate, a term I thought you would at least understand.

And for the record its the cuntos that dont like me i.e spooky, peakes and kwik. I dont have a problem with anyone else in there.
I noticed that you stopped coming to the channel. Why might that be?
And as for your exchange being one of the first in the country to be ADSL Enabled. If that is so, why have you stayed on dialup so long?
So you can continue to be the winging cunt that you are?

Horus I love the way you chuck the word twat and cunt about like you would say it to my face, fact is tubby, you wouldn't

What, they dont like YOU?
Actually I would. And you think calling me 'Tubby' is an insult?
Look everyone, this is the maturity level of Arclight.
Pretty sad, isnt it?![]()
Now now children! Comment by master_blaster - Thursday, August 30, 2001, 10:50
The comments on this page takes me back to my days in the primary school playground. I wouldn`t be suprised if you started the old "my dad`s harder than your dad" debate soon :-P
The fact of the matter is that different people have different opinions and different ways of going about getting things done. Some people like to make themselves heard if they want something changing (embattle) and others sit back and either wait for someone else to do it or just simply are too chilled to bother (Arclight). So stop ya bloody bitch fighting and just respect others POV`s. This doesn`t mean you can`t debate them but do it in a constructive and respectful manner.
I must admit that from reading your columns, Arclight, you do seem to have a problem accepting other people`s POV`s. You can`t be right ALL the time, you know? :-P I also noticed you were the first person to resort to personal insults on this whole saga and that usually indicates the other person has won the debate/argument and is slightly childish, wouldn`t you agree?

Embattle was right though Arcy ;p
As an admin it constantly amazes me how many people use 24/7 dialups for league matches. It`s only people who consider themselves elite that will use an 0845 POP for the better ping. Even as high as division 2 you`ll still see a significant fraction of ISDNers playing off freeserve or even BTi. BTW many people actually find freeserve one of the best dialups, pingwise (for ISDN at least).
more hops that a pongo[/q]
And if you`re on modem, who gives a fuck about hops? 90%+ of your ping is in the first hop. Once you`re past the receiving modem, you can get through 30 hops in 20ms.
As HAQSAU has pointed out you should never run a server at more than 60% of its bandwidth[/q]
Fortunately Embattle has already pointed out the server rate cap. Take, for example, CTF: 10 players + admin = AT MOST 11 * 10,000 kbyte/sec = 110,000 kbyte/sec; multiply by 5 servers / box * 8 bits / byte = 4.4Mbit per box + framing overheads. I expect BW`s on full duplex, and client->server will be (quite a lot) less traffic (although in smaller packets hence less efficient), so the 4.4Mbit / box is the number that matters. Now, that gives them well over 100 boxes before they hit 60% of available bandwidth. They`re` some distance short of that.
The lag problems must therefore have arisen elsewhere. There`s three posibilities for this: BW`s core switch (shiny new(ish) thing, prolly not), Level3 switching, or Level3 peering. I personally vote for the latter.
Which is why Telehouse peering is A Good Thing (TM) - control over peering, gigabit access to most of London, and plenty of available national, european and transatlantic peering bandwidth to be got at.
BTW, how did you think i8 worked? I mean, 840 people, 100MBit LAN, that`s far more congested than BW who probably have fewer people at any one time on their gigabit backbone.

Yes, but who?

hmm mpw22. Maybe it was me but................
because i`m sorry you mix me up with someone that gives a fuck.
For me this pants has ended, say what you want when you like etc. Have a spot of tea and a picnic. Discuss it with the Queen in the forums, amaze him with your inner knowledge of barrysworld networking and the maths involved.
Its all become suddenly boring.
