Nah, Well, It seems it wont even run classic classic graphics, and its WAY above spec for that.

Taking it back as faulty and demanding a refund, Its been 1 day they cant refuse.

If your goods aren't fit for purpose you can take them back and they are legally obliged to provide you with a refund within such a short timeframe. To be honest, you could take it back because your cat didn't agree with the noise that it makes and they would still have to refund you :)

If you need advice on what to go for hardware wise drop me a pm and i can tell you where to get the best gear from etc. :)

Edit: Spelling correction

just a warning for you, im a laptop player myself, running a 2.8ghz p4, 64mb Geforce Go FX 5200, 512mb ram.

I can rvr, the first run is laggy while it loads the player models, then its ok. But I run SI client, and have every graphic setting low. And before I ever RvR, I reboot machine, and log in to my char who is allready in Uppland, as Zoning makes gameplay worse for me. Also, I quit absoloutely every background app, even explorer.exe when Im RvRing, just so I can get every last bit of performance.

Things I suggest you do:
Go to, Control Panel > Power Options >
And change the profile, too "allways on"

Download I8kfangui , and make a profile for keeping the fan on high speed from any temperature of 50C+

Your also gonna need to increase airlow to the underneath your laptop(use toy bricks or something to raise it off the desk), and dont play in a warm room (honestly it makes a difirence), because once your temp goes too high and it can very easily on a laptop, your comp will slow to a crawl every couple of seconds while the PC slows down the CPU.

Mind you I duel log in PvE absoloutely fine.

I do all the above, and I can RvR fine, one thing is though, get yourself a pair of headphones , cause your gonna have to get used to the sound of a jetplane that is your PC fan :p

(PS. Dont bother with the Cooler Master Notepal laptop cooling pad, I got it for christmass, its crap, no difirence in temperature, than simply raising the laptop off the desk a bit with bricks so airflow is better.. waste of 50 quid

Just bought a new laptop.

1.6g processor
512 ram
64 gfx

All meets the specs, go to load up the game, gets to char select screen/bit more and closes "camelot is not responding " bullshit.

Any idea ?

This thread https://forums.freddyshouse.com/showthread.php?t=181694 has some links to the supported video cards for all the versions of DAoC. Some laptop video cards will work, but none are supported.

I have a Mobility Radeon X300 and it runs a bit laggy, but ok (and that may be just having a laptop hard drive - they are slower than desktop ones).

As you may know, desktop hard drives go upto 10k rpm and with 16mb caches, maybe more. Laptop hdds, true laptop hdds anyway, stop at 4mb cache or so i think.

Yeah i knew that ;) i am pretty sure they do 8mb cache on lappy hard drives now too.

Still it's a hell of an improvement and a hell of an upgrade for your lappy.

I played DAOC on an old laptop (Compaq Presario 2500)for ages. Wouldn't run Catacombs. Everything else worked fine, but was laggy in RVR and zoning took ages (particularly zoning from NF to PoC). The fan sounded like a jet turbine. Horrid. Now I've ditched the laptop and running DAOC on custom built desktop. Wouldn't suggest any new players to the game playing on anything except a desktop (unless you've got Alienware)

There are many laptops that can handle games quite easily, Alienware being 1, Dell Inspirons being another (especially the XPS) (Dell are my fav's btw)

The Alienware Area 51 doesn't use a custom chasis IIRC, so anyone can build one. (the alien logo on the lid and the paintjob are custom tho) but there are plenty more nice chasis out there. (Evesham Micro used to use the same chasis as the area 51)

Laptops are fine for games if you know what your buying, there are maybe 10 manufacturers that i have looked at that make really nice lappys aimed specifically at gamers. (Most are expensive like alienware, and mostly they use the same chasis) so they all look similar. One even offfer's a £500 pearlescent paint job

Toshiba, Sony, Packard Bell, HP, IBM and that crap you can get in High Street Electrical Stores just doesn't cut it, so don't buy it. They are not even aimed at gamers so why people buy them to play games on I dont know.

All it takes is some research and a fat wallet.

The asus carbon fibre one is my favourite, £1300 :)

www.alienware.com is a porn site for me... I just build a laptop and came to the conclusion that 4600 $ is a bit much for a laptop, with me being a student and all... but its a damn nice site:worthy:
