lol get a clue lad. Developers have been crying out for a unified stable single configuration platform on a familiar O/S for ages. Hence why they're all jumping on the X-Box bandwagon. DirectX has made "play the PC configuration lottery" a shitload better for developers, but it's still nowhere near as easy to develop for as a static platform.

Playing against real people really enhances the longevity of a game. Also it allows new formats of game - e.g. MMRPG

Saying that the newer consoles (DC, PS2, and XB) can network - so maybe it will change?

the original PS could network like with wipeout 3, it may change BUT seeing as though the PC gets constantly more powerful while a model of consoles stay the same it could be why the PC has bin around this long

Also - another thing that developers would look at is the market penetration of a platform.

Everybody + dog has a PC and net connection

(thanks to kids saying that they will do thier homework on it, PC World, and crappy home ISPs)

Consoles are better for games. Mainly as they were designed for playing games. PC's were designed for spreadsheets.

And to whoever said that graphics on PC are better than console graphics, three words for you. Gran Turismo Three. I havent seen a better looking PC game yet.

Short answer: No.

Slightly longer answer:

Consoles do single player games better, and have way, way better racing and fighting games.
PC wins because it lets me use THE INTARNET and stuff. And play against real people, which is infinitely better than playing computer driven AI any day (unless you play Counter-Strike, obviously).

Bear in mind that once a console is released, its hardware does not change for its entire lifespan. That means developers can really get to grips with it and optimise their code in ways they can only dream of doing on PCs. Plus consider that for the price of one PC, you can buy like three or four consoles, and a typical PC upgrade (a Geforce 3, for example) costs the same as a new console anyway.

People choose to buy a PC or a games console for different reasons - they're not really in competition with one another.

A better take on the same issue might be to ask why PC game developers still exist, given that console games sell far more per title.
