there can be only so much space, seen as energy cannot be created from nothing then in the end it should run out.

That's the big bang theory revoked then, call new scientist!

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

If a tree falls in a forest, and no one or no thing is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

True, but then there's theory & there's Theory. Some theorys are so patently off the wall & bizarre it makes you wonder just how much acid the bloke who thought of it had taken. Other theories whilst just as likely to be crap 'seem' more valid, appear more acceptible & understandable than the old 'The universe was created 17 years ago by a sect of rabid badgers called Dave' and lead to less questions, like 'Who created the badgers then, and why are they all called Dave?' ;)

But like you say, when it all comes down to it it's all bollocks :)

before mr smartdude came along, i should of added that i meant this AFTER the big bang.:twak:

if you ever create energy and matter out of nothing then come n tell me too, we can become very rich indeed.

Quite funny, though making "near to zero" the same as "zero", is kind of hustlerish in science

Well back to the universe thing, if going into any direction would make you end up where you started; you can't really make the analogy with a donut, or a circle and say 'but what if I jump off the edge?' because you could take any direction you want and would never meet an 'edge'.
At least I can imagine this model in my head.
Unless ofcourse we are going to discuss the possibility of more then 3 dimensions. In fact if you google '4th dimension' you can find some very heavy lecture on this...

true. i wreckon the shape of the universe is something we cant even imagine. the universe is like a circle, or a sphere, or a cube, just doesnt seem to explain it at all. it could be that the universe is infinite in all directions, never starting or ending just simply being. or something.

Aye, thats what i was getting at in one of my posts, I'm no cosmologist, was just piss bored at work - so started with the doughnut thing, then the starburst (any direction, returning back to start). Kind of an interesting subject actually, shame scientific types tend to be so dull in their explanations or I might check some links out :)

My guess is that @ any given moment there is a "finite" amount of universe however with the constant dispersal of energy it is getting bigger & bigger with time , also ...it will eventully reach a mass that will cause it to collapse in on itself and eventully wind up in one big black hole and nothing will exist anymore .... jsut imo :p

About the universe: The "flat-sided trumpet"-theory gets my vote ;) The picture below does probably discribe it better than I can:

space_trumpet375x252.JPG

About the "Big Bang"-theory: Since this theory says that the universe was created from an explosion, it made me think: Would not the universe have to implode some, at some point?

Does a fish wonder how big the sea is?

Ame said:
Err.
Explain how that is related to my question please :D

The fish just swims, eats, shits and shags, and possibly a few other bits along the way. The last thing he is concerned about is how big the sea is - because, simply put, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that he enjoys some of it along the way.

See now? :D

i was reading a while ago and remewmber something about the big bang theory being largely discredited by many top theorists? cant remember exactly but alot of the iedas behind the big bang were disproved if i remember. anyone know anything about this? defo want to look it up - the big bang oesnt gain my support anyway but.

Something coming from nothing at all doesn't make any sense. xc Infinite time seems to though, somehow. So yes it could be infinitely big and we are all insignifcant. ;D

just because something make no senses doesnt make it impossible though.

people think we are the ultimate superior being and if it doesnt make sense then it cannot be right. personally, i dont believe that at all.
