Just a brief announcement....*ahem*....

For those that know me, at least in my online form, you may have been aware of me going away on the QE 2 to DJ for 7 weeks in July of last year. You may also have been aware of what my girlfriend did to me while I was away (Ignus's sister, if you remember).


Anyway, I would like to announce to the Barrysworld Community, particularly the Throdgrains, TdC's, TUG's, Bohdi's, Summo's, Ono's et al that inhabit this place of gobshite and dreams (), that far from being disheartened by this unfortunate series of events, I in fact got engaged last week

Her name is Debra, for those that are interested, and she does indeed rock my world. Sorry, just had to tell you all.

Just out of interest, and Im probably gonna start a big row here, but in what way is getting engaged going to make you not young and shit?

Ive been with Mrs Wil for 9 years, we are both 30+, we have a house, 2 cars, 2 daughters. All the trappings of adulthood, but we arent married. Does that make us young and shit? I dont think so.

Im not having a go at you personally TUG, its just society in general. Why do people bother getiing married? No-one these days sticks to the vows. No-one (or very few) are even remotley religious, so getting married in a church is just for show. I have several friends who have been married, but arent now. All my friends who are living with partners, are still together!! I doubt that is a very country wide statistic, but in my little piece of the world, it means a lot.

At the end of the day marrige is about commitment, yes agreed. But as far as Im concerned ther is no greater commitment than having children, so why should we get married. Its an expense that we would rather do without.

And another thing. Theres nothing worse than the couple who get engaged for a long period, like a year or two. Why bother, its like your scared she's gonna run off and by becoming engaged youve trapped her somehow.

Staz, sincear congratulations mate, I hope this woman turns all your dreams to reality.

Firstly, congrats Staz mate, sorry I didnt see this thread earlier. WP !
Secondly, in response to Williers post, well I been married 14 years now, got married when i was 24. We was already living together, already had a 6 month old child. Believe it or not we got a cheque from somewhere, cant remember where now, and said ok we'll use this money to get married. It was like £300 or summat
We went up the registary office and booked a time. My mates chipped in and hired a car to get the bride to the place as it were, and I and everyone else went on our motorbikes. It was quite mad ! We had the party afterwards at my house, which got fairly damaged
Point being, we was happy before, i dont think you have to get married at all, but Im certainly glad I did, and it didnt cost loads of money or aggro or anything. We simply said ,If you want to come , come, if not, dont bother. Poeple always forget that weddings are for the couple, not the bloody mother-in-law or whoever
