Got a little bored with Eve just recently, couldn't get my original account back and started from nothing. Anyway, theres a 'new' space MMO coming out called Jumpgate: Evolution. Not sure how much interest the game will get, a few good screenies of it, apparently the graphics are as stunning as the stills. Apprently its a rebirth of an old game, never played the original, looks good though! :D

Official Site:
Jumpgate Evolution

Warcry Area:
Jumpgate Evolution on WarCry : Overview

NOTE: On the official site, there is a Beta signup, so whats the harm in putting your email address down for an account ;)

Dreamor, its not new. Jumpgate of old has been going since 2001. Evolution is simply a massive overhull to the game they are working on :)

hence me saying it was a rebirth :p

Looks decent, some early reviews say they are really trying to get things right from the start, no hours and hours of mind numbing mining/farming.

Used to play this back in 1998... with cHo... infact that where I met him. Awesome game, it had an awesome community as well. I personally can't wait for the latest 'evolution' of the game.

its nothing like EvE other then they are both a space MMORPG. :)

Perhaps, but it does LOOK a bit like EvE at first glance :)

Lighting, ship engine trails, general ship lighting, jumpgate, space backdrop...it's all a bit EvE-ish :)

Looks freakin awesome though :)

klick ---> orbit X Km away and toggle the mods/guns to shoot and then go AFK in EvE. in JG you dont have any of that shit.

when i played JG i dont think even autopilot existed.

So you fly manually everywhere? I guess it can't be anywhere near as big as EvE then? Manually flying eveywhere in EvE would make the game hideously tedious :(

And you did how much pvp(as you should in eve as it's mainly a pvp game)?

You can't even do level 3...or even 2 missions like that without being popped.

I always like(honestly) the "EVE is simple" people, since they don't usually play it for more then 5 minutes.

Jumpgate is good fun for the pilot in us, EVE is a simulator more or less.

i got up to lvl 3 missions before i fell asleep. properly modded you CAN more or less just start the toggles and go make some coffee in between while you wait for shit to blow up.

that said ofc there are exeptions. but those few extreamly hard missions doesent really count as they only make like 2% of that level's missions.

now i'm not really counting COSMOS missions here as IIRC you cant really farm those as theres a CD on when you can accept a new one. but yes, THOSE missions (or atleast many of them) are hard. but not many bother with them because of said CD.

and as far as my pvp experience go, what does that have to do with how hard/easy the pve missions are? but yes i have done my fair share of pvp. mostly in a Omen, and mostly because ppl got pissed when they lost to me and it was cheap as hell to replace.

that said i never were a huge fan of EvE's pvp. mostly because once you've toggled on your weapons/mods there wasn't a whole lot else to do but wait for the FC to issue a new primary, or if you were solo, wait for the other guy to blow up (or me to do so).

so i still stand by the fact that EvE online babysits you in combat as you really dont have to do much once you have started shooting other then keep watch over your energy level (unless your a NOS tank).

yes the "going AFK" might have been over exagerating it a tad but i'm sure you get the point anyway.

I get the point, but i just don't agree with it.

You can fight with mods on/wait, but in the long run you'll end up deadbroke and doing level 1 missions just to buy a frigate.

There's so much more, energy management, shield management, booster management, ammo manage...well..you know.

It may not be, as said, "hardocre hand eye coordiantion wins!", but i fairly like it as such. It's more managing a big ship and with little training, you can go up against the best with your "lesser" equipment. With FPS style flying, it's always down to the guys skills as a HEC and nothing more. And those who hack away at it 24/7, will be at an upper hand, much like in CS or some such.

With EVE, you don't have to hack 24/7 to compete, or matter in fleet ops.

BUT, that being said, i think there's a case of EVE being too boring for you and just the right flavor for me :D

I wouldn't disagree with anything here, but also wouldn't agree fully either.

You can grind afk in EvE on pve, i have done it a few times when im in the middle of a mission and I have to go out for 30 minutes.

PvP though is mainly all to do with distance, speed and manouverability before you get to the punch v punch.

I used to run in a 5-man kessie team (a swarm attack) and we would take down anything simply becuase we knew how to get in and out of range and when to close in, when to run when being targetted. You also need to know what your enemy is packing, if it's slow torps, no need to worry, if he's smart and is packing light defenders or somesuch, you have to bug in, take some hits, then bug out.

Should say though, AFK grinding is only viable with drones as there's no "autoshoot" in EVE.

imo EvE does look a bit like jumpgate, and jumpgate 2 looks a bit like jumpgate!

well, jumpgate came looooooong before EvE so i bet CCP was taking ideas from that game when they made EvE :)

Have to say though, jumpgate and EVE, doesn't relaly matter who took what from where as...well...Elite is the basis of it all.

Well, yes, but im pretty sure we were discussing Jumpgate 2 and the posted movie clip at the time :)

Yes, but still. Isn't a sequel suppost to look likte its predecessors? Then if EVE took some stuff from the predecessor the sequel doesn't look like EVE but EVE look like the sequel! :p
