Well the first thing they do in the Army is spend a year breaking your spirit, and notion of self interest or independent thinking, you don't want any of that in your robot army.

Do you speak from any kind of personal experience?

I'd also like to point out I wouldn't join the Army cos I'm an self-opinionated smartass and the'd never break me, also I'm shit scared of guns and fighting and extend my empathy far beyond the norm.
Id be out in a week with 'Not suitable' stamped on my hand.

Everyone breaks.

Not true. You have to volunteer remember?

If I was conscripted I'd soon be locked up for telling the drill seargent to cunt the fuck off. As would most people who wouldn't join the army. :)

Well, in these here parts everyone joins the military. Which is ofcourse why our military is in the millions if need be :p

Still, everyone breaks, just a matter of force.

That's for the Generals in the red leather armchairs..shit needs to be done, unfortunately this involves sending other people loved one's to die.

Don't need that long to break my spirit tbh. Worked in retail for 8 years, graduated two years ago to a country with no prospects for the youth.

They don't kill people, they get trained in case they need to defend their homeland.

Your link has no bearing on it.

Oh, so it's optional? They can say "no"? If they refuse will they not be imprisoned?

If they're forced to "defend their homeland" will they be able to do that peacefully?

No, during wartime they would be recruited into the army and most would do it because they give a f*ck.

Invading, if that ever happened, is a different matter, but as it is it's no different from protecting your home from invaders.

Also you have a choice in the matter of HOW you serve your country, you don't NEED to kill.

They have a border to Russia. There is no declaration of Peace since their last war. Which they won. I wouldn't talk shit about the Finnish army

I've not made a statement on their efficency m8. I'm sure they kick ass - (not that I care if they do or don't tbh).

The point I made was - what do they do with concientious objectors?

Was a joke man :)

AFAIK, you can get put in jail. People that object/refuse to wield arms can be put in a non-fighting position, such as chef, driver etc. Some people even get taught a trade such as translator (although, you need to be fucking smart). Only people with serious illness/disability/mental health problems got a free-card. Thats how we did it, when we actually had an army.

He is diabetic so may not have to do it. If I went to Cyprus I would have to do it, but being diabetic I think exempts me from it

Thought it might be ;)

What if your concience doesn't just say "won't kill" but says "won't support an army"...

TBH, if France invaded the UK I don't think I'd blink. The government they'd install would be pretty much the same shower of bastards that we've currently got. I couldn't care less who ran the country.

The polticial classes are the ones that want power. As far as I'm concerned if they want to fight for power in another country they should pick up weapons and go over there and do it themselves. Anyone who picks a gun up and does it for them simply enables them... :)

I wouldnt join the army if my life depended on it, get flown to some bullshit war area where your gov + another gov is fighting over for fucking oil/profit, get shit pay and end up fucked mentally (and thats assuming you even survive) if you want an army experience without going away to such places then hire a fucking dominatrix and have done with it, she can do anything the army can and might even throw in a handjob for a little extra.

I dont know if I feel respect or confusion towards people in the army. They are either damn respectable people doing what they do with the questionable government, nationally and internationally, or perhaps in denial to whats going on. Imo, ofcourse.

Ooh, i can just confirm shit and not rewrite it :D

You only get put to jail if you're a lazy f*ck who won't do some civil service to counter the military time. during wartime, everyone needs to pitch in...except...

If you don't support an army, the guys making sure that you can post this, and the guys who made it sure you COULD at all, then you should leave.

I'm not pro-war(unless it's nuclear :coffee:), but i knowledge what the army does. Especially for a country who struggled for it.

I know how it's ahrd for you to understand though Scouse, you're an invader nation, not a defense nation. Our army is actually called "defense force" and that's what it's there to do.

Quite, if war hits, i'm with ze ladies becasuse i is diabetics. They don't take people into the army who might be a liability and an insulin shock during a bombardment might be considered such :giggle:
