Greets, Tribers!
HISTORY
The August Knights was founded in February of 1998. Originally, we were established as an Interstate '76 "gang" with two original members. Several other members were added fairly early on, bringing us to about seven members for I'76. After the Interstate began to become hacker-ridden, we, as an organization, sought other games to keep us entertained. Our journey has included Jane's WW2 Fighters, Homeworld, Tribes, EverQuest, Unreal Tournament, Allegiance, Crimson Skies, Counter-Strike, and now Tribes 2. In short, we have evolved to become an online gaming organization with members who stick around over the course of years, not months the lives of single games.
BENEFITS
Currently, our active membership has grown to 18 members, as well as several recruits known as "Squires." As in the original Tribes, we have our own network of Tribes 2 servers hosted on a dual Pentium III 1GHz server in Verio's Englewood, CO datacenter on a full-duplex 100Mb connection. We have a Web site that is generally updated daily at http://www.augustknights.com. Resources include a vBulletin Forum, an IRC chat server, and free webmail accounts. We have no compulsory dues, although we generally send out a beg letter once per year asking for $15 to $20 to assist our COO in bagging more hardware and stuff, which improves services for the organization.
WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A KNIGHT
The August Knights is an organization composed of individuals who share unquestionable integrity, high ethical standards, similar interests, and generally outstanding characters. We are always on the lookout for people who share our interests, and, of course, demonstrate the traits of an August Knight. If you are interested in being knighted, we encourage you to get involved with our organization by gaming with us and bantering with us in our forums. This allows us to get to know you. More importantly, however, it allows you to get to know us! Also, make sure you agree with our rules.
The rules that the August Knights live by apply not only to our behavior in online games, but our behavior on the Internet, in general (and, it is hoped, in everyday life). As long as a Knight has the [AK] affixed to his or her name, he or she is expected to represent the organization in a way that will not tarnish its name, but rather bring honor and dignity to it. The rules are as follows:
August Knights will not . . .
* hack or cheat in any way.
* attack others unless in defense of themselves or the August Knights.
* impersonate others.
* spam, cyberbomb, or threaten others.
* repeatedly use obscene or offensive language.
August Knights will . . .
* honor and respect others, particularly fellow Knights.
* defend the honor of the August Knight's name and its membership.
* exercise their right of free speech; no Knight should ever feel as though his or her opinion cannot or should not be expressed.
* remain ever vigilant against those who seek to subvert or otherwise destroy the organization.
* take it upon themselves to improve the organization in any way he can.
* be at least 21 years of age.
So, as you can see, we are an organization with high standards, which, we feel, have enabled us to stand the test of time. Our age restriction gives us the ability to screen ourselves from the typical "l33t haXor" types so that we get people who are reliable, mature, and scrupulous.
If you are looking for a no-BS organization that you can count on being around for years to come, through good games and bad, check us out. We'll be happy to have you.
