(for people who don't give up when they come across a word which is higher than Key stage 2 level, i know it's probably not real, but it is *the* best thought out hoaxes i have seen, try reading the forum posts from ~2000 in the links section to see how long this has been running, its actually quite interesting.)

I like it, is he actually a Time Traveller? No. But what he's saying makes a huge lot of sense nonetheless.

I firmly believe, and have for a while, that we'll see a huge war, as he describes, within our lifetimes. The human race is doing so much wrong, and nothing short of a kick up the ass like that is going to sort it out. :(

instead of going back to get a computer, why not send people back to kill the people who started the war? or would that mean the time machine wouldnt exist because they made it because of a war?

I'd quite like a revolution in the UK but we're too bloody reserved.

:(

Did you actually read it? Because your question is answered more than once :)

Because he's saying we deserve the war. It started for a reason - because we're all greedy, selfish scumbags who'll do whatever we can to get ahead even if it means stamping on other people in the rush.

And ECA, right there with you. I should point out that despite my disgust at the state of the world I'm doing little to improve it. This complacency is perhaps our biggest problem.

Wonder what will happen on the dates he mentions, because i can see it happening to be honest. Also, when the logs were wrote, 'weapons of mass destruction' wasn't a daily used phrase, where would he get this knowledge from? Lucky Guess? There are more examples. Like i said before, if this is a hoax, it's damnwell thought out

And a civil war in the US is highly possible I'd imagine.

Simple enough, if America starts warring in 2005, then 2015 is the date for WW3...start preparing.

one thing though, IMHO its too well written :p

If he's just a normal bod (with l33t mental arithmatic skillz) he wouldn't write that well would he?

Also the 2038 thing on unix isn't that another date thingy like the 2000-bug but this time its the amount of memory space put aside for holding the date is too small or something.

Mass devastation and trauma like he describes could quite possibly turn people towards religion.

Call me a cynic....

But there are a few flaws with his statements that stand out.
I'm sure they've all been posted before.

Mainly, he claims that he is a "time traveler" rather than a physist. Hence he is unable to support any physical reasons or derivations for time travel. Yet he goes into alot of detail over the constituants of the time machine itself.
And it's a matter of course that all specialist operatives are given extremely detailed courses into exactly how their kit works. Take fighter pilots for example, they have do do alot of school work on turbulance and some sophisticated maths too. All of it relevant to the operation of their machine.

It all hangs like a very different way of putting you view across. It certianly gets attention for what is essentially some blokes opinion on things.

The whole "I don't care if you beleive me" thing is old. If he didn't care, and it was true, why say it at all?

That's very well but...

Its not like time travel will be taught at an institution.

He won't have had to do an HND in going back in time :)

Quite an interesting read. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if a book was published soon that was set in this post-apocalyptic world. I think it would make a good setting for a good story.

Seems very much like that March 8th thing a while back. Still, it let me get through the last 2 hours of work without too much hassle :)

If you look at his claims, he says he is a part of a specialist "unit" of time travellers. Hence I think the parallel with the training is accurate.

And believe me, if and when the theory of time travel is developed, it will be taught in universities long before it's done.

But I hope they don't let any old joe travel in time. I have enough to worry about getting hit by a bus, without adding the risk of being spawn gibbed by a time traveller.
Or shot by a ray gun etc..

But using his method, we could transport all the matter back in time, effectively ending the universe before it started.

It would be fun.

I thought it was pretty entertaining. I'm always open minded about stuff like this, after all I can't ever present any proof that its a load of tripe.

Whichever way you read it, it does provoke some interesting thoughts on the kind of society we are.
