1. Suit up
2. Don't be late
3. Make sure you know the name of the person to ask for !
4. Be polite, amiable, and professional
5. Be honest, don't brag, but don't undersell yourself
6. Firm handshake but don't break the guy's hand.

Make sure you know something about how the restaurant works. Check out its website beforehand. They're bound to ask you what you know about them. If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail !

You NEVER get a 2nd chance to make a first impression !

Also, personal pet hate from people I've interviewed (it has happened!) or shaken hands with, don't have sweaty hands, if you do, make an effort just before you meet the person to wipe them so they're not dripping wet.
Finally, if you shake hands and feel the other person relax their grip, dont then grip harder for another 10 seconds. They're trying to end the handshake and you're just holding it too long!

Also, what lamp says

Oh and bad stale breath. Make sure you've brushed your teeth, or sucked a mint or something. Oh and don't go in reeking of cigarettes either. And make sure you've spat your chewing gum out LOL. And polish your shoes ! Do them now !

GOOD LUCK

Grats.

On a note that it's a restaurant interview, things to remember next time too:

Prepare some recipe that might impress them, like a "show off" quick cooking.
Be more interested(slightly) of the kitchen then the chef talking this and that.
Wash your hands when/before entering the kitchen(critical).

throw a fish in the air and yell yaaah haaai yaaaah and chop it mid air with one hand while mid-air-chopping other stuff with the other hand, breathe fire on it so its all perfectly cooked ... then throw a plate, do a back flip and catch it all on the plate perfectly laid out, imo that'll get you the job, failing that youd be well in as an x factor "comedy" entrant.

Try to learn as much about the company as you can, they love it when you can spout shit loads about them

if you dont know an answer say "i'm sorry i dont know the answer but i will endevour to find out" or something like that

be confident but not arrogant

EDIT: Captain late reply

That could almost piss me off.

I've been looking for a job, vigorously, and had no luck. You get interviews without even trying :D

Always the way, i concur on this one, seems the harder you try the less luck you have. Peeps start to think that you are Yosser Hughes are something, when all you want is a job ffs. It's not brain surgery to figure out why peeps want and need work and yet peeps just treat you like shit because you can't get work when you try to get it like hell :(

funny thing as well about the job I have atm, I just got a 3 months trial period at first, as I didn't really give a shit if I got it or not I was rather careless, boss calls me in after 2 weeks and wants to have a talk about, he say things are going well so far etc, and wonders what my plans are. I tell him I will most likely head off to school (was 19 atm) once the summer is over, end up going out of the room with a steady position in the company, wth?
