Glasto

Just a heads up that its on the BBC iPlayer

I have to say i am pleasantly surprised at how Jay-Z turned out, shame it sounded like he had a soar throat or something as his voice broke in some places and the mic started off uber low for a good 2-3 songs

If you want a look check out bbcIplayer as all the event is on there

Looked really boring on TV. He's playing a festival i'm at next week, fair to say i'll be looking to see what's on the other stages.

He is a crap rapper, the bloke is an overhyped producer and nothing more. A 2008 version of Puff Daddy. If they wanted class at Glasto they could have chosen 100 different rap acts, instead they opted for Mr Beyonce Knowles.

Hiphop isn't shit live. There are just some rappers who thinks everybody on the stage needs a fucking mic. I've had some of my best experiences at hiphop jams, because they've got other ways of connection with the crowd..

.. but as I said before, only about 5% of it is worth listening to these days.

Not a fan of Jay Z but Nelly seemingly put on a good show and One Big Weekend and other showmen Eminem Xzibit and Ice Cube have been known to throw a good party, I wish i could have seen that Up in Smoke Tour live.

I haven't seen his set but i thought him coming on stage to wonderwall and singing it in a bit of a whiney voice was such an amazing comeback to the shit that Noel had said about him.

Guess its innevitable with events like Glastonbury, which get commercialised and beamed across the global digital highways that they open up the stage to all-comers, including rap. Long gone are the folky-bohemian days of Glastonbury 30 years ago. We live in a different age. Back then, people just chilled out in the mud, got stoned, and enjoyed the music. People aren't the same these days. We have to have buckets of security.

On topic, I suppose rappers are musicians. And they'd only mouth off if they didn't get some action. Don't agree with having rap at glastonbury myself, but there you go.

Really? Or did Noel win that one because the biggest sing along of the night was Wonderwall?

Interview between Jay Z and Westwood - Westwood really needs to grow up.
Glastonbury 2008: Boom! Westwood speaks! | Music | guardian.co.uk

I was there and that was my take on it. Lots of people thought it was amazing though. I thought it was OK, the crowd was really welcoming but it just didn't float my boat. Anyway, Eavis said its not going to happen again because it just didn't sell the tickets.

Wow, how constructive of you. So bascially you do not like it so it is shit? Jay Z is a great rapper, I suppose it helps if you like the genre in the first place.

Keep it out of festivals? Why should music festivals be limited to rock and dance acts?

its the same boring repetitive bollox its either some ***** gonna shoot ya or hes gonna fuck ya christ after an hour of listenin to it you dont notice where one track ends and another begins. the one hiphop artist i can bear to listen to is eminem and thats prob only because i can understand what hes sayin

so yes imo it is shit and as for whether hes a great rapper or not frankly dont know dont care

glastonbury is a folk and rock festival always has been ppl would have rather paid to see the hoosiers or something along those lines (dont actually know much of the lineup)

frankly if id paid £100 plus to go to sensation in amsterdam (big dance event) and suddenly iron maiden walked out after van buuren's set id be pretty pissed off even tho i do like them thats not why i would expect of that event.

you want a festival with hiphop fine have it no probs there but keep the music along the same lines so the ppl who turn up know what to expect and wont be put off by an unpopular act.

you should all read that interview too with westwood funny stuff white man tryin to talk black is always cause for a laugh.

Wow thats a very ignorant thing to say like all rock is shit becuase its just guitars drums and some drugged up prick singing. Judging all rappers because you cant be arsed to listen to lyrics is stupid and saying you like eminem and then saying its black talk makes your whole hatred sound racial.:p

Jay Z may have had an effect on ticket sales but so did the price its cheaper to go to a foreign festival than Glasto i also know a few people who lost money on tickets now they are non transferable which puts people off as well.

I enjoyed Jay Z's set, I much prefered it to Amy skankwhore's

I guess its all down to personal choice like everything else, I refuse to buy into to someones music just because they dont bath and take drugs.

I saw Any Winehouse's set as well, i couldn't understand a word she was singing. Reminds me of seeing Peter Doherty a few years back when he was completely fucked all the time. It's a shame, because unlike Doherty who got victimised by the press, they same to be encouraging Winehouse.

The press are hoping for a suicide or an overdose bud, it sells fuckloads of papers for weeks afterwards. The did exactly the same with Britney Spears.
