my computer keeps trying to download and install this, without it, java pages don't display properly.

When its installed, I sometimes get a small icon in the taskbar area. The program is over 100MB in size!

How can I stop this crap?

get the latest JRE from here. You only need the kit to run the apps, not the sdk. it's about 15 meg.

what, exactly, can you see on screen? SUN has a pre-made JRE for mozilla, but moz1.4 iirc, not the latest. install everything and forget about it. imho java should be forgotten. it's best. trust me.
