...and bought this (and yes I know the Quad Core/Vista 64 arguments):

Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q9550 Quad Core Processor(2.83GHz,12MB Cache,1333MHz)
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium with Service Pack 1, 64-bit - English
Coolermaster 690 High Performance ATX Midi Tower + 550W PSU
ASUS P5K SE Mainboard - Intel P35 - Intel Core™ 2 Duo/ Quad/ Extreme - ATX
8192MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM - (4 x 2GB)
1TB (1000GB) Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive with 32MB Buffer
Blu-ray ROM Player Dual layer DVD Writer 24 x CD Writer
512MB ATi 4870 Graphics accelerator DVI, DirectX 10.1 PCI Express 2 7.1 High Definition onboard sound card - for 8 Channel Cinema sound
12x USB 2.0 Ports (6 ports at back panel, 6 ports at mid-board) - ASUS P5K SE
PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET 2 - ASUS P5K SE
Multi-format Memory Card Reader

The 64 bit driver problem seems to be a bit better now so I'm not too worried about that, and I'm looking for something reasonably future-proof. Should be playing Spore on this in a couple of weeks :)

Very nice :) Motherboard is rather basic but the only real difference to the higher end versions is the lack of a second PCI-E x16 slot and only 4 SATA connectors. It does however make manoeuvring other hardware around inside rather easier ;)

Should run rather well!

Christ, it will need it's own container ship to get that to Dublin!

looks awesome mate! tbh I have 64b Vista too, and have not yet had a driver problem. There is one thing in my hardware list that is unknown, and as everything else works fine I really don't care :)

nice one with the 8GB by the way, I'm doing that as well in a week or 4.

I'm on 64b vista too, not a single problem. Installed itself and found all the correct drivers it needed.

Very nice indeed, though I would have got a slightly more meaty motherboard myself, the one you have picked is still very good though :)

I did the same this week, except I splurged on a laptop. I went for one of the new Samsung R560's with the rose red highlights on it. It looks well smart and the spec is pretty mighty too for a a lappy. It's got

Centrino Duo P7350 2Ghz 1066Mhz FSB CPU
4Gb DDR3 RAM
250 Gig Hard disk
DVD Writer
15.4" Screen (and a bloody superb one at that)
Vista HP
9650 GS GPU
The usual connectivity options.
HDMI Out
Webcam

All for around 600 notes. I'm chuffed to bits with it, it makes my desktop look like the clunky old dinosaur it is. Thankfully now I can use that as a fileserver and do most things on this. I might post some pics up later if I can be bothered. In the meantime heres some samsung took.
