I've always wondered..

Why is it that..

You see most/lotsa male-IRL players play both female and male characters. You see male-IRL players pretending to be female, or roleplaying a female. Why is it that you never see any female-IRL players play male chars, pretending to be male or roleplaying a male?

This just strikes me as right down odd.

I reckon they do, but don't give themselves away. My old EQ guildmaster played almost all male characters, and always came across as being a bloke.. until I got an email from her one day in which she signed herself off as Sarah

Female chars draw attention, that's probably why some male play em and that's probably a reason some irl female avoid them, playing a more anonymous char(male). The gaming world still highly populated by teen males often lacking in social skills so I would probably consider it if I were in there seat.

As for me, I couldnt be arsed running around looking like a village people reject(male norse) for 2 years so I rolled female toon's. I dont think anyone at some point thought of me as female though as im quite crude with words so to say.

Anyway, on topic. Have to agree on most posters here, female players can play a male char and can "become" male, without anyone noticing. a male "roleplaying" a female is quiet poor 9 out of 10 times.

Pretending to be a female often has its perks in game. Men are always more polite/generous to female players than male players. ...mostly.

If you see male characters then most people generally assume that the player is also a man as the majority of computer gamers are still men (though the gap is closing happily).

Female IRL and all my chars are female...
Most likely because my bf also plays, and we share last name in DAoC, so it would feel weird me making a male char when all of his are males. Especially since we make most of our chars to fit each other's....
