and I'm still in a large amount of pain.

Does anyone have similar experiences? Nurses keep telling me it's normal but it feels like the pain's increased since.

Eat some knives Adari, that should sort it out.

And if that doesn't work try icecream ;)

My tonsils actually grew back after a few years (not that I'm trying to worry you ;) )

Should take around 2 weeks for the pain to subside after having your tonsils out. Just hope your throat doesn't become infected because then it really hurts!!

Its been twenty fours years since I had mine out, so I don't remember much about it (other than having to be sedated three times in total, because I was adamant that I wasn't going down without a fight) BUT I do recall being forced to eat everything scratchy, like dry toast and crisps. Have you had to do that too?

Sorry to be a nurse telling you the same thing Adari, but I promise you it is completely normal. I deal with tonsillectomies every day, and I make a point of saying to the patients on discharge....,'you'll probabaly feel a little bit better every day until day 4 or 5....then you'll get a whole lot worse again till about day 8, then it will wear off properly and you'll be grand.' Thats why we suggest taking 2 weeks off work/school.
Take your painkillers on a really regualr basis, set an alarm clock....paracetamol or its equivalent every 6 hours, nurofen/diclofenac every 8 hours....and if you've been lucky enough to be prescribed something stronger (tramadol for example) take that as well. Make sure you eat plenty of ice cream/ice cold drinks interspersed with lots of crisps, dry toast and other scratchy foods, as, believe it or not, this helps. If you need any questions answered, you can always pm me!

Oops - sorry my lovely, but I am going to post my story!

Did as instructed, trying to eat normal foods... after about 4 days I had lost stitches down my throat, was in agony, went to hospital, it was all infected and I was kept in immediately, in isolation and on morphine, a drip and anti-biotics and painkillers for 3 days to recover.

I don't know when you had your tonsils removed Jup, but they don't stitch them....and haven't done for a very long while. If we still stitched people, of course we wouldn;t be encouraging rough foods!

Yeah, it's called "drinking whisky every day for a week" syndrome ;). I've avoided it since, it's not good for you; shame because I love whisky.

how much were you on?
most stuff is 40% and if you have 25ml youre only taking in a unit a time.

This calls for:

I'm on a whisky diet - I've lost three days already!

Well, the pain started increasing again since last week so I visited my doctor yesterday and he told me I developed an inflammation in the past few days. Am on antibiotics right now and I complained about diclofenac not having any effect and suggested tramadol since I remembered that, which I then got. And I have to say it's aaawesome. :p Going to be a very interesting driving lesson tonight.

Now, I'm not one for condoning violence.. but if you are even considering doing a driving lesson while under the influence of drugs which make you drowsy... you deserve a swift hard kick to your nether regions and a night in a police cell before being prosecuted for driving under the influence.

er...yeah....DO NOT drive whilst taking tramadol. VERY bad plan. Its an awesome drug, and does the business when it comes to pain relief, but seriously mate, while you're taking it, stay away from anything that isn't your own 2 feet....even they can become pretty unreliable on the Tramadol!
