So it's been a sort of up and down ride has my life over the past month.

First I find out I'm clinically sterile, and the only IVF treatment that would be suitable is ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection - the "TV version" of IVF), which costs £3000.

We're not eligible for free treatment on the NHS, primarily because my step-daughter lives with us.

We can't obviously afford the £3k, so that's that. Even if we did, the chances of conception only range from 12½% to 25% at best.

I'm not a gambling man tbh, and I wouldn't want to gamble three grand on a 4-1 bet.

Stupid fucking NHS rules.

Anyhow.





So a week or so later we have to go see our solicitor as we're told the papers have arrived for us to sign for our mortgage!



So much like Big G, I'm now a home owner (along with Mrs Sar, natch). So now I'm in debt for the next 25 years of my life.

Hurrah!


We're just waiting on a completion date from the Housing Executive so we can start mortgage payments etc.

Sar, it doesn't sound like you to give up on something just because the odds are long. What about tagging that 3 grand, or part of it, on to your mortgage? Or doing some fundraising? I'd certainly chip in for a Sponsored Swim for Sars Sperm (you may not wish to use this title). I'm sure with your big domed forehead crammed with an unhealthily high IQ, you can find a way to at least give it a go. Worst case scenario, you raise some money, but not enough, and so you put it towards your new house. Worst case scenario #2 you try the IVF and it doesn't work, but at least then you've run down that path and know the outcome, instead of wondering what if. There is a place in Spain that a lot of couples use called CERAM in Marbella that looks to be cheaper than in the UK that does the procedure you're looking for.

Anyway, congratulations on the new house! It's so nice to have a place that you can botch DIY jobs in, and run around naked, and paint bright orange if you wanted to. It's also good to know that the money you're spanking each month isn't going into your landlord's pocket, but towards paying off your own home.

However the news just killed most of any enthusiasm we had left to try, especially as my wife knows a girl who happens to be going out with a complete arsehole, and he gets free treatment on the NHS as they're going down the IVF route too, and they get free ICSI. A guy that's nowhere near mature enough to be a father... Life just isnae fair.

Right time to employ my uber-l33t silver lining finding skillz. Whilst no doubt it sucks finding out yer wee swimmers could use some arm-bands at least you have the benefit of never needing a johnny again. Now when you go to get busy with your missus, you simply put the money you would have sent to Durex in a jar, shouldn;t take you too long to get the 3 grand you need. It shouldn't anyway if you're doing things properly hehehe.

I do worry about myself sometimes I had the mumbs last year and the doc was no help and said only to get a fertile test when im tryin for kids, but my relastionship ended so I won't need to be taking any tests soon.

My ex had a 6yr old, but she felt mine maninly because her dad was in her life quite alot but I know what u mean I would like a Child I could call my own that I helped to create.

But good luck to you buying a house is hardwork but worth it, espically with someone you love at your side (sorry to go all Hallmark on you all)

Never give up hope, my wifes aunty was told she would never have a child from the age of 24 yet at the ripe old age of 40 she fell pregnant via good old fashioned loving and gave birth to a beautiful son 9 months later. Always have faith.
