I really think this is a bad idea.

Soldiers are trained to kill, they're not policemen, arent trained in anything like the same way and should never be used as such. Its bad enough as an occupying force, but in thier own cities?

Its not fair on the soldiers to put them in this sort of situation, because they'll get the blame when they use the force as they've been trained to when confronted with a threat.

personally i'd get uneased if i knew soldiers patrolled any city i was in. I dont know laws for military personnel in your own country but if they have free hands to do what they want (i.e. disregarding normal police conduct) i would be very scared. They have not been trained as police, and im not sure what their purpose is other than giving "false" security.

Go ahead, would feel safer coming home.

If you've done nothing wrong, there's nothing to fear.

Except corrupt soldiers, but there's corrupt cops too so...meh.

Actually many of them have had training and do have training for dealing with the public, at least in the UK anyway.

Good idea to me, the old adage of what are you afraid of if you havent done anything wrong fits here.

Lets face it. given history they'd just swap sides when they look like they were losing anyway.

So you'd suddenly have an extra 1000 armed italian speaking football hooligans rampaging round Manchester.......

Always hated the "Nothing to fear if you're Innocent". Say that to people in jail for crimes they did not commit, people being on deathrow for 25 years, finally the judge finds him not-guilty and is let go. 9 out of 10 getting searched by the cops in US of A are innocent but the cops get paid by how many they arrest, makes the figures looks good - so they search as many as possible, even clearly innocent people in order to get abit better pay that week... I know that UK, Italy or Denmark is (are in this case?) not the US but its always just one step to the USA ladder which many western countries will fall on. This was slightly off-topic.

Actually 75% of em are dispatched on sensitive objectives to free up Police to actually return to investigations and criminal preventions.
Only 25% are disposed to aid patrolling major cities in MIXED patrols with Police.

Wtf there isn't Martial Law dude, don't panic :drink:
Also since it isn't a Far East Country you can quite do whatever you do in rest of Europe (well maybe apart Holland, but that's true wherever)

I'd say the little chavvy fuckers may show more respect to the army than the police. Especially if they're allowed to carry guns.

Puts me in mind of Northern Ireland to be honest. Although that type of system works in parts of Turkey though. Guess its one of those "Time will tell" things.

If you sent troops inside some of the housing estate in London they'd never come out.

English police don't carry guns.

True, although the diplomatic police in London do. They're all armed to the teeth. They ride round in red marked police cars. Ever tried talking to one ? Miserable bastards.

I could swear i saw one on newspaper picture with MP5 back on when there was that strike on london underground, then again it certainly was pretty out of ordinary case.

What are they supposed to do when some crimal has a gun thought?

What kinda stupid comment was that?

Christ another idiot whom thinks if I saw it in the news about NI it must be like that all the time.

If you ever lived here you would know its entirely different to the situation in Italy.

Our army has strict ROE's so would not go around killing chavs unless the chavs attacked first. I'm not sure about good or bad idea but one thing that would be cool as fuck is an apache longbow hovering infront of a stolen car telling them 5 seconds to stop and give up :)

Not all english cops carry guns the ones we have are very highly trained and only sent to serious situations ARV's i think they are called and when they stop you they are scary mofo's.

They could use some help in Naples indeed.
One of the most unsafe towns I've ever been....

There are only a few police that can be armed in England. These are the Civil Nuclear constabulary, the MOD police force (NOT Military Police), Armed Response Units (ARV's) & Specialist Firearms Officers (SFO's), then C019 (which controls all the stuff in the met).

Most of the police in airports carry MP5's as well presume their SFO's. Or at least thats been the case when i've been at Bristol,Heathrow or Gatwick!

Its fucked up. Do you guys REALLY feel safe surrounded with a bunch of pumped up soldiers with heavy guns around you? Its a true symbol of false security.

And whats next? A pickpocketthief doing his thing in the street, not seeing the soldiers, who's in fact is not really trained as the police, and gets shot to the death by a bunch of bullets from a heavy automatic. Is that really what we want?

I really cant see a good reason to have soldiers patrolling the streets.
