IT use policy

Just been reading the IT usage policy where I work for a laugh, it occured to me earlier that I'd not actually seen it in over a year working here, noticed the following in the "not allowed" section:

"Use of bulletin boards or Newsgroups for personal advertising or any other non-business purposes."

Oops

It makes you laugh though - I've seen a few of the secretaries downstairs looking at pr0n and downloading god only knows what

Anyways, I was just interested in what sorts of policies are you lot breaking whilst bored at work?

which parts are you breaking in particular ?

Most of the banks I've worked in have extremely restrictive internet policies, which I can completely understand.

My companies ISM/IT policy is more strict than any I've seen. I probably break it every hour of work. The Laptops are now so strictly controlled our Field Engineers can't actually use them to do most of their job. Downloading and uploading on aircraft, not able to use Engineering tools (developed internally). Absolute bloody joke of a system. When we highlighted the issues to Senior IT Management with a 2 page letter we got no response.

We have quite a strict IT usage at school.

I'm actually the student who checks and enforces the IT systems rules, and manages the school website/environment. Ofcourse, this means I set myself special rules to play games etc.

It's a grand world!

They seem to have a strict set of rules with no enforcement at work, I've been browsing FH and other forums on there for just over a year now, if anyone told me I'm not allowed I'd tell em to shove the job up thier arse and I think they know it

Browsing FH is just about the only thing I get to do in the day - theres fuck all work to do despite my constant requests for something to do; I'd have died of boredom a thousand times over by now if not for the 'net.

Its stupid though, why bother even having the rules there if no ones going to pay a blind bit of notice?

i worked in a call centre for 1.5 years and managed to get a couiple pay rises and act as team leader when needed. still one of the managers did not like me, as i didnt stand for shit.
everyone in there looked at the web, even them. well they checked the cache for me and printed off some pictures i looked at on "somethingawful". one of them was a naked fat dude on a computer!

in the end they said theyd do a meeting for gross misconduct, so i just upped and walked one morning.

Bloody hell, sorry to hear about that tris Good to see someone willing to do that though, I hate it when people go all wobbly when they get a phone call from IT services.

Plus if your the one to quit they can't give you a bad reference, either a good one or dont give the person one. Whereas if they fire you they can say whatever the hell they want!
