You don't read much SF do you? A sufficiently paranoid/xenophobic race wouldn't necessarily visit us in person; they'd just send the Von Neumann machines to go berzerker on our arses, and everyone else's.
none of you are realists

OMG do you really think all aliens will look like a young Drew Barrymore???
you discover my cunning plan Toht; I'll have to send in the warrior drones now :/

Ah but my good man, even if they were paranoid and extremely xenophobic, attacking us would mean that they would have to assume they are A: going to complete the job with extreme efficiency. and B: Assume that we don't have soeme form of "other alien" friends, who would then proceed to kick their gray little behinds.
Not to mention, if there was a advanced race there who would come all the way over here, and had the means to destroy us, it would be a waste of resources as they would always be technologically advanced to us, and as such, we are mere puny humans.
They wouldn't come themselves. They'd send Von Neumann robots (self-replicating) that leapfrog from star to star exploiting resources to build new robots. Wouldn't cost the bad guys anything beyond the push to the first star, and we would never know where they came from. It's one explanation for Fermi's Paradox; everyone's keeping their heads down.
Aliens exist in films but thats it so far.
If there are any advanced aliens that can travel here with no problems it would seem a bit mental to fly x number of lightyears to come here and start killing us off. I don't see the gain here. There would be many other worlds for them to take without killing off the inhabitants.
It makes more sense for them to either wait for us to get more advanced and then visit us or leave us alone till we bumble across them....if we do get to that point we wouldn't need to fight them either.
FOOD! its a big blue planet with 6bill+ cattle

Yes and i answered this.
If there's one who would send the VNs, no need to explain, there would be one who would try and stop it as it would be very poor judgement.
Activating VN is at BEST a last resort, when you know that you won't be able to survive until the machines eventually, attack you.
And they would've attacked already, towards another race, unless one believes that there's only TWO races, us and those who are so advanced they can construct this, in the whole universe. And that, would be astronomically silly.
The second part; "Not to mention, if there was a advanced race there who would come all the way over here, and had the means to destroy us, it would be a waste of resources as they would always be technologically advanced to us, and as such, we are mere puny humans.", was an add-on to my previous statement, not the one about VN.
You're thinking like a human. Think like the Krikkit.
No, the Krikkit want to get rid of everything ("It'll all have to go you know"). Our importance is just the same as every other living thing in the universe.
