Predatorial aliens, with mere interest in our planet in order to kill us, is rather far fetched as it would mean they are very war like nation, destroy and annihilate all. And those races, look at us, even in our "civilized world", try to annihilate eachother.

And if there's one, there's another, and humans with only tech to reach mars, with a radio controlled toy, is hardly a threat to their own planet/s.

Only thing an attack on earth, would be for supplies; water, wood, oil, minerals. And let's face it, there's easier places to get that. Especially with the fact, we might actually dent them. Physics are physics and nukes might hurt even.

Harmony is as unlikely, as a peaceful race alone would not stand a chance out there(this coming from "well, if there's one advanced race, there's another") and so, they would at most be peaceful military. And EVEN if they were a galactic carebear stare union, they wouldn't come HERE.

The most logical choice, for an advanced race to reach out to us, is A: Sanctuary/refuge(from another hostile race that kicked their arse) B: Diplomatic(trade etc).

Either one, would only mean they have enough firepower with them to have a "fair fight", which they doubtfully want to risk.

If the aliens do come, i most likely think it's because of them explanding their empire near enough to us for them to spot us, and as such, since we do have some tech like spaceflight, they would most likey come to say "hi, whaddup neighbour?" and let us know that yeah, we see you, don't get out of control.

Humans have this funny idea in their head(ego-trip) that we are even remotely interesting/dangerous enough to cause too much concern

Ah but my good man, even if they were paranoid and extremely xenophobic, attacking us would mean that they would have to assume they are A: going to complete the job with extreme efficiency. and B: Assume that we don't have soeme form of "other alien" friends, who would then proceed to kick their gray little behinds.

Not to mention, if there was a advanced race there who would come all the way over here, and had the means to destroy us, it would be a waste of resources as they would always be technologically advanced to us, and as such, we are mere puny humans.

If there's one who would send the VNs, no need to explain, there would be one who would try and stop it as it would be very poor judgement.

Activating VN is at BEST a last resort, when you know that you won't be able to survive until the machines eventually, attack you.

And they would've attacked already, towards another race, unless one believes that there's only TWO races, us and those who are so advanced they can construct this, in the whole universe. And that, would be astronomically silly.

It makes more sense for them to either wait for us to get more advanced and then visit us or leave us alone till we bumble across them....if we do get to that point we wouldn't need to fight them either.

And like i said, there would certainly be those who would try/do and stop 'em.

And the likelyhood of the VN reaching us before any of the fleets warning us or trying to join forces with us, as we are at the very hiney end of the galaxy, is unlikely.

And in any case, even if they had the supoerpower to destroy anyone, the other who could stop them would be more important then us.

We are at the very bottom of the universal feeding pool.
