I am moving into a BTland line area in Swindon,

Name: Upper Stratton...
Postcode: SN2 7NQ
Phoneline: BT

Well I have been searching the net for ISP 1 meg lines and have come up with the option...

Tiscali @ 24.99 - unlimited
Pipex @ 33.99 - unlimited
AoL @ 29.99 - unlimited
* Would like webspace - to host a small website

could anyone elaborate on Tiscali, as price difference is alittle cheaper... is that because they have French people manning the phones? any help would be appreciated, or any ISP worth looking at....?

I mainly use internet for online gaming, with the odd pron session, erm I mean philosophy lectures... but im mainly concerned as soon as I mention Tiscali... heaven rains, and Im being urged by fellow friends to pay that bit extra for reliability?

I have exactly 2 days to pick one, so any help would set me up as an advantage

Might be worth reading the forums on here ..... http://www.adslguide.org/ .

I can only comment on my own isp which is Pipex , been with them for 3 years and ive never had any major problems with them.
There are quite a few complaints about them on the pipex forum on the above adress but its mainly down to people complaining about thier customer service cos they all wanna move away from pipex to a cheaper ISP. Luckily ive never had to use the customer service at all so i cant really comment on it.

much thanks, generally CS is always poor when it goes wrong, so i dont mind that... as long as they speak english.... im just after reliability and seems a good isp from what ive seen and heard

Does the area have cable(telewest/NTL)?

Telewest are doing 1.5Mb/128kb for £25/month

Really don't even consider AOL worst ISP ever period.

I've heard good things about both Tiscali and Pipex but then I know what Pipex customer service is like and so would go with Tiscali :).

Nildram used to be good, not heard much about them recently though.

my dilema is Tiscali or pipex....?

tiscali is much cheaper by £10 a month, but is it reliable....? if the answer is yes, then ill take that, if no, then ill have to go with pipex and blame my friend marc for helping me choose that isp

/decisions

keep the ideas flowing please, havent got long to choose as most offers close tomorrow ie free install and modem etc

Plus.net, had zero issues with them, great service, and they have yet to pull me over my bandwidth usage (213gig between 15th dec and 14th jan on a 2mb line). Static IP at no extra charge, web space + e-mail included.

If i were to choose between pipex and tiscali, i'd choose pipex.

Only had one problem with pipex in 2 years, and that was bts fault really. And when i called them i got told straight away what the problem was, or maybe i got fobbed off, who knows.

I work for a pc vendor so i get to hear how good isps support is just by how many customers get referred to us for isp related problems. Aol is the worst for this, their famous "Your modem drivers are too old" crap is something we get on a daily basis.

Anyway, imo pipex > tiscali. Oh and with regards to the comment about nildram that someone made, i heard someone say that pipex bought nildram.. and after a quick google thats true : http://itvibe.com/news/2795/.

So pipex wins imo, even though its more expensive. Pipex are also introducing 2mb sometime in the immediate future.

DO NOT GO WITH TISCALLI...

Slow speeds, worse customer service...lame uptime...worst ISP I have EVER USED.....AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I can't state enough how much you need to avoid tiscalli!!!!!

I was on Nildram they were very good...atm im on plus.net who also seem pretty good.
