Islayer.dll, say... where the hell did you go?

Right. So I was going to upgrade my GFX drivers to the latest DNA release. It uninstalled the old ones, but when it was going to install the new ones it started bitching.

Apparently Islayer.dll had gone missing. I've got no idea what this particular file does, or where it's supposed to go. Trying to install offical drivers instead of DNA ones yield the same results. Versions do not matter either. Luckily I can just update the drivers in device manager, without installing the control panel and such, so I can get it working again.

Googling for this gets me nowhere, as it seems the solution for the problem is to format. Formatting is out of the question, as I have new parts coming in about 3 weeks. Two formats in one month is abit much for my taste.

So anyway, anyone else had this? Or could check where their Islayer.dll is located? Note I've got a Radeon 9800Pro on XP SP1.

If you are logging onto an NT4 Domain have a look at the following.

- The problem occurs when (at least) one or both of the following two Nt
Policy options have their checkbox cleared:

Default Computer \ Windows NT Shell \ Customer Shared Folders

Custom shared desktop icons
Custom shared Start menu

- I tried to install a common application, and it failed with the error

- These two policy settings correlate to the following registry values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShellFolders

Valuename: "Common Desktop"
Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ
Data: "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop"

Valuename: "Common Start Menu"
Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ
Data: "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu"

- You can re-create these registry values manually, or set the NT4 policies
to checked (put a checkmark in the box) and then specify the
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu path. This will repopulate the values in the registry.
- Run a "secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce" on a 2000 client to
reload the NT4 policies.
- Run a "gpupdate /force" on an XP client.
- Software should now install correctly.

Not sure if that helps, there were a couple more threads on Google Groups you might want to check.
