Ooook but what about PvP, because if there is none then this game is as good as any single player game.

And for many people the setting itself is not appealing, no matter if it's a good game or not, if it's not a fantasy game it won't do for some, basicaly the main reason why Eve or SWG wasn't appealing to me, and the super hero stuff aint either.

And whats with all this advertisment? you getting paid or something? Picking out good selling lines.

Hehe Promising yes..:), clearly no....
But it looks very good, visuals are interesting i would say, we need to see about gameplay etc.

The clan/city/realm warfare seems to be the thing future games concentrate, although it has been proven by DAoC to be succesfull it is very hard to squeeze yourself in a market of established games, especialy if you listen to the whiners of the older games too much.

this sound's really good about darkfall

-----------

Can you walk through other players in Darkfall?

No, so blocking entrances will be a viable combat tactic. It is possible to push players and monsters out of the way though, so this tactic can be countered.

--------------

and this

-------------

Will Darkfall have safe zones?

There are no safe zones in Darkfall unless the players themselves create them or seek them out. There is no area where a player cannot be attacked by another player.

There is relative safety in numbers and in staying out of harm’s way. A player in a city full of his clan mates and further guarded by NPC guards is as safe as he can be, but he is still vulnerable to a sudden enemy raid. A player who has made a home for himself in a remote area is also relatively safe, but an enemy could always come along. The six racial capitals are very well guarded and will probably be the safest locations on Agon. Someone could still attack you, but he would probably die in the process.

check out the movies on the page (i know some of them are
quite heavy in download size for some, but they are worth it)

i for 1 think it looks brand good and exciting.

tell me your opinion.

no, but this game will, anything DAoC can do, this game can do it twice over and still have something left.

Maybe - but pvp rulesets invented post release do not exactly have shining history of success.

My virew on the upcoming MMOGs that I can think of right now...

Wish : pie in sky - current design looks like a cross between shadowbane and daoc pvp. Only with better ways to grief other players (<10% chance of making retail with it's current basic design).

WoW : Blizzard don't exactly have a great record on the one thing that absolutely vital in a mmorpg - killing off exploits.

CoH : Unbalancable concept and no money in the company making it (40% chance of making retail in any form imo).

EQ2 : Unimaginative retread - but at least has realistic aims and a sensible budget.

MEO : Continuity vs practicality questions will either destroy this game as a playable system or make it nothing like Tolkien (50% chance of ever launching).

Warhammer online : never gonna happen.

Matrix online : Must be the single worst idea for a mmog I have ever heard.

So, maybe WoW has half a chance. And EQ2 will no doubt be shiny - but with no pvp.

/shrug

I think we're stuck with GOA for a while yet.

PvP is so important that the game either is designed around it or anything else is destined to fail.
No matter what, PvP is the single most important thing a mmorpg can have that is why many avoid it alltogether because if it's in it must be good or the whole game fails.
And personaly if a mmorpg doesn't have PvP and i mean real PvP, not PvP Arena's or PvP servers or PvP switches or any other crap like that, so if it doesn't have PvP i won't even look at it.

To comment on some of the other games.

Wish : Never hered of it before.

WoW : I musy comment on this that Blizzard never had mmorpg that was on a monthly fee before and considering the work they did with Diablo that is on a free server it is promising.
Blizzard makes exelent games and that is in their favor, the one thing they lack imo is speed, but maybe thats why their games have this... something... that makes them what they are.
The PvP issue is strong with this game though.

CoH : Again don't know what game this is refering to

EQ2 : No comment as no PvP makes it useless to look.

MEO : Again which game is this?

Warhammer online : Ahhhh i hope it does happen with PvP.

Matrix online : Don't know it but from the title i agree

Dragon Empires: Promising but hard to pull off imo and it has the problems of shadowbane and DAoC pulling the Dev team in wrong directions.

Darkfall: Promising but the bigest problem i see here is that the dev team and most of the people commenting in the forums come from a heavy UO history and are trying to avoid the problems UO had which are more or less unique in UO anyway, some very wrong decisions are in the making here because of it.

So in the end i must say that i also believe that unfortunately we are stuck with GoA for a while yet.

And hopefully soon a company will produce a game that is original in which the dev team don't give the various whiners in the rest of the games so much credit but consentrate on the positive features of their game.

How can you replace a Fantasy MMORPG with a Sience Fiction MMOAG (Action Game no RPG imo)

Best Online Multiplayer
City of Heroes
(Cryptic Studios/NCSoft for PC)
With dozens of online multiplayer games shown at E3, it can be difficult to choose just one extraordinary title. Actually, no it isn't. Anyone who had the chance to play around with City of Heroes, an upcoming massively-multiplayer superhero-based role-playing game developed by San Jose-based Cryptic Studios (to be published by NCSoft), will agree the game serves as a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the MMORPG flock. In the game, players can create and fully customize a superhero from scratch and set out in the metropolis of Paragon City to do just about anything. Crawling with heroes and villains (each one sporting unique powers and costumes), players can explore or fight solo or with a group (Justice League of America, eat your heart out!) and interact with NPCs such as reporters, cops and other "contacts" who may or may not ask for your help. Our collective Spidey sense is tingling about this one.

As far as I can tell Darkfall has no financial backing, and a dev team with no experience.

Furthermore the design promises on it's site almost suggest the design team haven't even played more than one MMOG.

It looks suspiciously like a group of ex-MUD players with dreams bigger than their wallets.

From what I can see, I'd give it a 15% chance of making it to retail.

And maybe a 5% chance of being moderately successful.

I have hopes for:

Dark and Light

If they get anywhere near what their saying on the site, it'll be very cool : http://www.darkandlight.com/Reviews+index-req-showcontent-id-15.html

Stéphane: We don't have any theoretical limits, but say the technology that we developed allow us to accept several tens of thousands of players simultaneously on our main server. Everyone will meet to play in just one world, no more: "I play the same game as you but I will never be able to meet you in this game."

There seems to be a limited beta test going on atm, no idea how far they are with it though... But the world, the possibilities... Sounds sweet...

*how did I end up here?* anyway ... posted a reply to a similar thread in pryd-section the other day. Thought I'd quote myself a bit... :)

Personally, and to give you other people a few suggestions as to do next, I'm waiting for 2 games ...

Dark and Light
Found this one yesterday by "accident" (browsing mmorpg.com). Looks totally amazing. The trailer looks very good and since I spent all night reading about it I know they got a really nice PvP-system set up (dark vs. light ... good vs evil .. or the other way around hehe). Check out some screenies

Dragon Empires
Also looks amazing and I've been following this project since it started. A really cool PvP-system and upgraded crafting-system. Also this game has a dynamic economy and more. Very nice!

I would wait for Wow, and do it some ways, but the PvP-system really seems to suck. A zone for random PvP ... zZz. I want PvP to have a meaning - like Realm vs. realm, Good vs. evil or as Dragon Empires: Traders, bounty hunters and outlaws. And best of all you can choose to be trader in one kingdome, bounty hunter in another and outlaw in a third :)

Anyway, have a looksee!

I think Dragon Empires will be the better game, even tho Dark and Light got some amazing graphics. But since non of them are ready yet I'll just have to wait and see ;)

they couldnt find investors here in norway cause well....investors in this country are slightly retarded, but now they found serious investors in Greece, and moved the whole company down there, and have like 15+ employees now

and fyi, they are getting very close to beta and release...if you read their forums a bit more, you might see stuff like this :p
