Hmm, its funny as "indie" is meant to be independant music, ie bands that are on independant labels.

Cue 10,000 bands that are signed to major labels.

As for Oasis, they ARE the ultimate band.

Just think, whats gonna make a comeback next? Nu metal?

Oasis are anything but an 'indie' band. They are a 3 chord wonder band with lyrics that mean absolutely nothing. I always find the people who love them are the more casual music fans who don't look for anything more than a catchy tune in their music. If you want to look for a quintisential indie band, look no further than the pixies, they pretty much started the genre off.

Hmm, music should be about catchy tunes, not about how you want to slit your wrists because someone ate your last Ginsters pie

When Oasis first came out, they were classed as an "indie" band.

HTH

Oh and they were bigger than Jesus. Not bad for a 3 chord wonder band

I thought that silly cow on big brother just mixed her words when she said "There is this new music called Indie"

Indie has been arround for years and years, so how could it be a craze now? just because the youngsters just found out about it?

Can't find a song by Nirvana or Oasis with just 3 chords. Yes you can play some of them using 3 chords but that's not how they were written and played by the bands.

Next time u see someone at a party playing a 3 chord version of a song and telling people how easy it is and how much "they" sucks, tell em to FO and to learn the propper version and stop cutting corners, then lecture them on how being a lazy fuck won't get them anywhere in life.

Odd really. Back in the day, all indie meant was small record labels struggling to get bands out there and willing to buck the mainstream trends so you got a lot of stuff that wouldn't otherwise have made it onto a label. It wasn't necessarily a style of music.

I've got various indie music in my collection amongst a bunch of other stuff (not a wild amount of mainstream though I'll admit). A lot of the bands that are/were indie bear no relation to each other or adhere to any particular style of music.

They just showed some talent, got on a small label and got their music out there.

So 'Indie' has a look now?

Riiiiight.

I'll always remember Denis Leary on Jim Morrisson:

nirvana are stupidly overated, they were never THAT good..

When are people going to learn that personal opinions are pointless in discussions on musical taste.

For everyone who says they are overrated someone will say they are underrated

For everyone who says they are not THAT good someone else will say they were the BEST.
