What do people feel about having a watch that is connected via bluetooth to your phone, which has functionality such as vibrations when you get a message or a phone call? It could show you info like who is calling you, or who the message is from.

If you could buy a watch like this, or upgrade your current watch to gain this functionality, would you consider it a good idea and more importantly, would you use it?

My mate thinks its a good idea and it would be really popular, I think its stupid and no-one would use it. C'mon, how difficult is it to take your phone out of your pocket? Therefore we've decided to put it to the vote.

however, such devices exist already, not showing ofc details about the call or sms, but just showing that you are being called or sms'd, think that showing call details/sms might be overkill tho

It wouldn't be that bad, surely, it's a passive device - it only has to receive bluetooth frequencies, probably more like a pager.

Unless you can outline some James Bond stylee functions, I'm not really that interested. btw, just having "007" on it with a cheesy themed alarm won't work - if it in someway utilises lasers somehow, or you can talk to space pilots with it, I'll have one.

Hum, if all it did was gently vibrate then yes, forget how many times I've missed calls due to not feeling the thing vibrate or hear it ring. The other stuff however...no.

Been done, even if it IS a silly idea since you got your phone in yer pocket. Only reason this would come in handy is if you've left your phone home, but bluetooth range is borked, so that's killed.

And we got pagers(sp?).

Watches are just jewellery nowdays, they are prized for their cost not for their features.

At first I was in agreement with you Dave buuuuuut, there is something to be said for it.

DJPringle does have a point with missing calls on vibrate and I could image some people would see the appeal of being able to see and dismiss calls just by looking at their watch rather than rummaging for their phone. Especially if a watch was something they wear anyway.

Personally it's not for me, but if the price was right and if the design of the watch was good then I'm afraid some people would buy it.

Someone is bound to make something along these lines in the next few years, as stated above it would clearly have it's uses - While I'm listening to my mp3 player I have my phone on silent w/ vibrate (it ringing away and me looking like a twat for not hearing it was getting annoying) and here, a watch that could vibrate to let me know that someone was calling would be great. It wouldn't have to tell me who, 9 times out of 10 I'd pick the call up so I'd inevitably have to get my phone out of my pocket anyway and it's really not that much of a chore...

But I voted yes for the alerting part.

I wouldn't buy it. A cheaper thing to do is to develop like a wrist-holder thingy, and stick your phone in it. Better still, leave your phone in your pocket. The watch isn't really a necessity imo ofc.

I'm looking forward to some tricorder-like multi function device, but until then I think a watch is easier too glance at than digging out a phone, not to mention more discrete. edit: though you wouldn't want someone getting the idea that you're bored with them. Or planning an assasination. Scratch that then.

well as a bird i keep my phone in me handbag with tonnes of other junk i dont really need so i neither hear it ring nor feel it vibrate so it could be useful..
tho if u made em for gals how it looked would be a big deal n would also limit the size it could be - big watches r for dudes

I often dont feel my phone vibrate because its either in a lose pocket, or my bag, or on my desk.
I do feel it vibrate when its in tighter trousers, however I dont always wear these.
What do I always wear that is close enough to my skin to enable me to feel it all the time?
Boxers, what about a bluetooth vibrating thing that clips on the side of your boxers or something and once "linked" with your phone, vibrates when it rings?

i didnt check thourgh all two pages, but its a bad idea because you could pay XX for a watch or upgrade your watch which will tell you that your phones gone off, OR you could turn the ring tone or vibrate function on the phone on for free. the phone is in your pocket ffs its like arms length or something like that.

Well, I'd buy one, but I tend to buy to many gadgets for my own good. In fact, if you could get this idea on Thinkgeek.com then you'd find an awful lot more people with my tendancies that would buy something like this
