In my opinion music pretty much peaked in 1980 with the release of "Blizzard of Oz" by Ozzy Osborne. Everything before that was leading up to it and everything after that has been a vain and pretty crappy attempt to recreate it's simple perfection.

I know it's not quite that simple, but I do love that album!

60 and 70s were best imo.

pink floyd and the beatles, they top pretty much any other band going.

Creedance Clearwater Revival>the Beatles!

oh and Britpop was shite :(

nope just find the right stuff. Im listening to a lot of Gym Class Heroes and Fall Out Boy at the moment. Most chart music is shite now but just find the band you like and check out the album.

There's still lots of good music, its just harder to find now, as many bands are too comercial to make good music. Hell even Black Metal is becoming comercial!

the reason we think todays music sucks is because we live today. there are good songs, just theres a lot of shit being produced as well - but do you think that in the 70s shit wasnt being produced? we just dont listen to shit from the 70s because it was shit and thus has been forgotten, but the good songs have remained. i am fairly certain that in 2030 there will be people enjoying music from the start of the new century, and thinking 'damn why does our music suck so much compaired to theirs'.
also, there is the burden of inventing new flows and your own style - if you keep going like a loved artist did, you get flamed for being a copycat and not having your own style. if you make your own far off style you get flamed for being shit and then the whining arises that noone is making music like the old greats used to make.
i dont enjoy listening to the radio and i dont enjoy most of the new stuff, however there are still people who are making good stuff, and noone is stopping me from listening the old stuff that i love either.

edit: and now after reading the thread i notice that golena already posted the exact same thing i said. but who cares.

There's still some good music around now. I 'm an old git myself and spend most of my time listening to stuff from the 70's to the 90's as thats what I grew up listening to but I've still found some good "new" bands to listen to:

The Flaming Lips
Cold War Kids

To name but 2, both have a distinctive sound of their own and both are very good. You just have to realise that your not going to find anything groundbreaking listening to the top20.......
