Well in that case, what a ridiculous thing to say...you're stating something that's basically an axiomatic truth and then acting like you're putting forward some Nobel Prize winning thesis!!!

I never said it was, or even was trying to make one, just that you decided to make it into such an attempt.

I was BASICALLY saying, as you so nicely put it, that people go for good looking people because we like to look at good looking people. Attractions first stage is looks, and people like(albeit there are different types/pers) good looking people first. Unless you're a magic kind of person who sees peoples personalities.

NOW, if you fell in love with an ugly puddypuddler, like after talking to one at a party with no alternate motive, then it's a different thing.

This thread was on looks, i spoke about looks. Stop bieng so...so!

For me looks are purely about initial attraction, if i see a really cute girl i'll be (alot more) inclined to try and start a conversation (not that i go and try play every hot girl i see :p) however the chances that i hook up with an unattractive girl are rather unlikely..

so after the initial attraction i will see if it "clicks" to decide if its relationship material or not .. and if i really like the girl will depend on her personality.. if she's a bitch i wont even bother, but its her looks that will start the initial attraction .. not sure if you can call that shallow but thats just me :x.

i'd never dump a girlfriend however if she puts on some weight during the relationship tho .. alot of girls will ask " would you still be with me if i get ugly", i'd have to say yes, but we'd never hooked up in the first place if she's ugly before we met :p.

How ever I like to be considerate about my "other half" and try to keep looking in shape & good for her, and I much appreciate the favor returned :)

If she says she's putting on weight and u can actually see it, tell the bitch to go work out ! hah

Not the word i was looking for...*puts the Great Dictionary Of Insults back in Teh Icebox(tm)* :p

You were talking about a different thing really as i, and as such you thought i was making some insightful comment on a different thing. As i mentioned on my clarification :D

actually i think the age thing is partly true when i was like 16+ i went for looks, tatoos, motorbikes general coolness etc but the guys i fancied i never looked at with the "i want to spend the rest of my life" thing it was purely an id hit it thing.

Tbh i'm glad i did too because it showed me that what looks good and is good for a quick boink isn't good for a relationship, you have to look deeper for that and in things like that people have to learn by experience because there are certain things that are true, you can be told them a hundred times and still you have to learn for yourself.

On topic though, legitimate question i think, how did you first get attracted or even met your current Bif?

Well, necessarily ofcourse. There are people who look good, boink good and are good for relationships :D

i met my bf as a blind date, this girl i worked with knew id had a shitty time and she lived in a shared house with b2, she thought we'd go well together because of similar personalities etc, she'd told me about him and he sounded nice (this is what got me interested tbh). Anyway we're waiting in the pub for him and he walks in, nothing zinged i didnt go OMFG and rip his clothes off (that was later on) but i thought he looked nice, we talked and played some pool etc etc basically we just clicked, it felt nice and he is totally different from any guy ive ever gone for before looks and personality wise he is the total opposite.

and yes it would be incredibly stupid of me to say all good looking people are not fit for relationships that would be a sweeping generalisation. however just because someone is good looking doesnt make them perfect. just like if someones "bad looking" it doesnt make them a bad person, look at the big dude from the goonies!

Lol, seems like a really daft thing to say! What's youth got to do with who or what you find attractive? Its not like you turn 30 and decide you want to speak to the person you're fucking now.

If all you're doing is sleeping around, then sure personality doesn't matter, but you can have deep and meaningful relationships when you're young - why should it all revolve around looks?
ye i've done the meaningful relationship blah blah stuff, got fcked over, so atm i couldn't really care less, mebbe one day i'll find someone but until then fck it, not like you know me so critising my chosen way of life ain't really gonna change me.

im both good looking and perfect, so chew on that shit

Ah good, we can disagree again :D

i met my bf as *snip for space*tal opposite.

Nice story, and the basic "oh gods above a blind date..." must have been in the back of your head.

But regarding attraction and outlooks, would you have felt so eager to get to know him if he was a beast from hell with a dingy on his forehead? :D

Not tryig to trap, just curious and in a way forcing my point on the "initial attraction is based on looks" thing.

rofl i wish i really do wish i could show you what my 1st bf looked like but i cant so ill describe him:
10 years older than me, just over 5 foot, weighed about 8 stone, scars all over his face had half his nose lopped off and sewn back on again, greasy stringy hair, teeth all smashed (not a whole tooth in his mouth) and black from a bike accedent, eyes looked in different directions one looked slightly right and one slightly left. Oh and he had a gigantic boil on the side of his neck from where he insisted on wearing a lether jacket in the height of summer.

i was 17 and if i say it myself rather hot, however i went out with him because i thought he was really really funny, he used to make me laugh (for the first month anyway lol) and i thought he was a nice guy (oopsey wrong on that one).

lol im really sorry to be so pedantic (i am) but i really really want to show that it is true that not everyone rules people out on first sight because they are unconventional looking.

anyway he was a bastard, 2nd bf was conventionally good looking he was a nasty bastard 3rd bf is nice looking and is a wonderful chap :D

and yes id never been on a blind date b4 and i'd just had a really nasty bf so was quite scared tbh lol

Well yeah, kinda extreme boyfriend there, but now i'm curious on how that came together? I don't think that was a blind date though. Since if that guy would've been the guy your friend was trying to hook you up with, i doubt you would've gone for too long.

Though at 17, it's still that puppykinda love thingy where everyone dates everyone and their mother :D

I've got to say i have some form of shallowness! I'd prefer a girl to look pretty and make an effort with themselves, but i still look for that personality factor too.

you don't get the instant omg she is hawt! from a munter, but then if a good looking girl is a **** then, well, thats what they are and i don't give them the time of day.

However you can get attracted to "ugly" people over time if they are nice people, doesnt matter if someone is the best looking ever, if they are wankers then they are not attractive.

If looks are everything, I'm utterly screwed! So I'm going to have to vote "no" for my own sake.

My all-time low in the dating scene was a few years ago when I was dating a lass from Sheffield who was cute enough, but nothing to write home about. We'd been dating a few weeks when she said something along the lines of

"I've had a great few weeks, you've made me feel really special but basically you're too ugly and I'm embarrased to be seen out with you so we can't date any more".

Talk about owned!! :(

So to some people, it seems looks ARE everything, but speaking on behalf of the Ugmo camp, I'd take personality and a mutual attraction over pure looks every time!!!

Females are the root of all evil!!!
I will date you if you want!

the all singing all dancing CoC is not sexist tris-, it's just not interested in your Mr. Floppy :)

for myself, looks are certainly everything. I consider myself god like in all respects. I have a gf who I think is hot, but there are ofc girls out there who are more or less hot than she is, but it does not matter cause they all wanna be my baby doll. What I like most about my gf is that we can make each other shudder by simply sharing a Terry's Chocolate Orange, not that she has large Jelly Babies, if you know what I mean.

imo, being hot has a large amount to do with how many coats you have on, its layers not thickness remember! show some personality and style, some flare and wit, hold a door open for your nan or push some random older person with a heavy bat. thank someone with crabs, laugh if you're happy. that will show just how hot you are and that it runs all the way through, rather than you looking good on Horse & Hound and having the personality of a Pony.

Ooh you and your ego haha!

*looks at TdC with puppy dog eyes*

Met my feller on t'internet. I was in an AOL chatroom (this is like 7 years ago now though) and he did a search for people in Leeds who listed rock music as an interest in their profiles.

We got chatting about music and all sorts, and chatted for about 5 hours that evening. For the first hour or so he wasn't even aware I was a girl oO

We decided to meet up for a drink a few days later and just hit it off from there. We had a fair amount in common, although our definitions of rock music were slightly different at that time (him: Machine Head and Napalm Death, me: Led Zep and Pink Floyd). I moved in three months later, three and a half years later we were married :)

So can i, just a bit, assume that these days you'd think twice before engaging into some sort of courting procedures with such a looking character? :D

Current Bf excluded of the equation ofcourse :p

um tbh not really i mean it made me warey that just because a guy is funny and seems nice he might not actually be that nice but it didnt make me go "aw ffs no more mingers!!" because bf2 was nicer looking and he was dispicable far far worse than the franken-bf.

anyhoo im lucky mr ez is stuck with me so i wont have to go through the whole irritating thing of dating anyone else ever again thankfully lol

Alrighty, well, i still stick to my guns on initial liking based on looks.

Then again, we would be at this for a few days before anything was answered right or asked right to get a answer either way :D

Out of some sort of respect towards you, i won't comment on the 2nd segment of that quote :p

there are different ways of falling for a person.
you wouldnt go out and look for somebody you initially wouldnt find attractive but you could get to know one from friends and fall in love (that way find her attractive) through getting to know her. net dating makes this possible. first you get to know the person. then you see them :p
on the other hand, those hot chicks have a tendency to be stupid skanks and simply, there's nothing less attractive than hot girls who are full of themselves and completly braindead (in the long run, 1 night stands would be fine).
so yes, looks on first sight, personality 2nd but most important for partners
